Chapter #5

The Dream Dresses

by: Doc Harralander Author IconMail Icon
You've left the house and are on your way to your favourite designer store, with some cash in your pocket for once. You have just enough to buy some nice dresses for your prom, and the next season of Ritzie Designer dresses have just arrived in store. On your way out you quickly pocket a bar of Ryvita and an apple, as you had to skip breakfast to avoid rush-hour queues.
You walk half a mile to the shops and check your stepometer, after which you cross the high street and head straight into the store. An assistant hands you a catalogue which you scan eagerly. You groan when you find most of the new seasons partywear are either too unflattering on your slim figure, too expensive for your budget or just not pretty enough for the location. You're about to lose all hope when your eyes suddenly hit a great dress you really like. An assistant shows you to the dressing rooms and helps you manage your clothes, and brings out the first sample dress. She quickly shows you how to put it on without creasing it and then you give it a go yourself. You suddenly find yourself trying to wear a sack, the dress seems vast and airy. It feels like there's way too much room. You look in the mirror and agree that it is too big for you, even though it looks perfect. The assistant quickly fetches another, which you look at in shock.
"I can't wear that!" you shout. "Look at the waist! It's way too small for me!"
"I'm sorry m'am, but those are the only sizes they supply"
"What? I mean...is that all?"
"That's all, just those sizes. Size two and size twenty"
"I'm size seven...maybe six and a half-ish...although I could be eight or nine...I change a lot between those numbers, what do you recommend?"
"That depends on your height and age..."
"I'm seventeen" you say, still beaming at the though of having earned a driver's license. "And I'm five foot seven"
"Well, that's a good start. Your shape can still vary. Either you exercise, diet and slim down to size two to fit in the second dress, or put on a little weight for the first. It'll be hard either way though, were you thinking of wearing it for something special?"
"Yeah, my prom's coming and it's four months and four weeks away. I always like preparing in advance" you smile.
"Well, that gives you time. If you really want this dress, you're probably going to have to work for it. Either drop five sizes for one, or gain thirteen for the other. It's your choice"
"Thirteen? That's a big number"
"Sizes and weight aren't always related. Sometimes one goes up faster than the other"
"What do you think will look better on me?" you say, aspiringly.
"I think you look great as you are, you could go anywhere and still be beautiful. I think you'd look better if you gained a little, I'm unsure about size twenty, but an extra stone would make you look fantastic. Heck, you'd probably look amazing if you gained more"
"You really think so?" you say, a little surprised. You thought she was going to say the opposite, but the thoughts of you looking heavier begin to immerse your mind.
"Yeah, but thin is also a good look. You've got a great body, how much do you weigh?"
"Well, I'm nine stones seven, about 135 pounds"
"133" she says, correcting you. You grin nervously, knowing that you haven't weighed yourself for well over two weeks.
"I say just go for it" she smiles. "But personally, I'd like it more if you were bigger. I think being curvy would suit you"
"I'll think about it at home" you say, handing the bigger dress back. You thank the assistant and leave the store, telling her you'll be back to buy one when you're happy with your shape. Checking your watch you find that it is twelve o'clock, so you go to a food court. Suddenly you find yourself in a fast eating complex. where shops are selling foods of all kinds. You realise that you haven't got all that much time to think about the dress, the decision's all based on what you eat for lunch. You spot a salad bar and you imagine yourself as a slim and pretty size two, picturing yourself in the dress. Then you see a fast-food restaurant and the image of your size twenty frame comes into mind. Both seems pretty extreme to you, but you're getting pretty hungry. The words of the assistant come into your mind as you think of food, and you know that you love to overindulge in junk food. But salad sounds delicious too.

Where will it be for lunch?
