This choice: Watch out for Olivia's feet • Go Back...Chapter #9Watch out for Olivia's feet! by: Unknown The two siblings had very little time to react between the shadow of Olivia's foot falling on them and that shadow becoming a crushing reality. They had very little time to sense the movement of the air as their cousin's foot descended on their unfortunate patch of dirt at breakneck speed. They had very little time to hear the light whistle of the air rushing between her dirt-caked toes, and they had very little time to avoid said toes ramming into them without forgiveness, very little time before Olivia put her full weight into her stride and her tanned flesh sank slightly into the dirt and left a shallow impression. They had very little time until every bone in their body would be broken and shattered into innumerable fragments, very little time until every blood vessel and structure would be burst and their tiny beings would be reduced to paste, very little time before they would be reduced to tiny, indistinguishable red stains in one or two of those shallow impressions, very little time before they would join Jon -- they had very little time before they would die.
They certainly used it well.
Call it intuition, fortune, fate, luck, providence, or something else, but Blake had turned around enough to see the behemoth and tackled his older sister, safely sending them both out of harm's way. There was just enough time for them to draw in a gasping breath before Olivia's foot slammed down right where they had been. As the giantess shuddered at the sudden sensation of loam in between her bare toes instead of grass and she retracted her foot, the bug-sized children ran for the cover of the grass. Though they had avoided being squished under their cousin's foot, they were still in the area between her legs, and Olivia still had to retrieve her sandal.
Meanwhile, Olivia, who did not enjoy the feeling of the dirt under the rosebush, took a couple steps back and eyed her entangled footwear. It would be difficult to retrieve it without getting pricked, she decided. And so she re-approached the bush slowly and fell into a crouch. She was so focused on the problem at hand that she did not notice two tiny bugs ducking and weaving through the grass blades. Megan and Blake were hoping to run between Olivia's bent legs and out into the yard, where they might have a better chance at survival. They had made it to a small depression where Olivia's butt was hovering when the enormous cousin pricked her finger and lost her balance, toppling backwards...
WHAM!
The two siblings were suddenly millimeters away from Olivia's shorts, which covered the entire depression.
"What do we do now?" asked Blake.
Megan pointed at the denim canopy. "Look! We can just climb into her back pocket and we'll be safe!"
And so the two quickly struggled into Olivia's shorts pocket and huddled together, finally (if temporarily) safe. Olivia's butt -- with tiny stowaways -- lifted up as she sheepishly pulled herself out of the dip in the ground. For the tiny siblings, gravity turned sideways and they were trapped at the very bottom of the pocket, meaning they were unable to escape should they need to leave. Olivia, meanwhile, quickly retrieved her sandal, and was putting it on when a drop of sweat came down her nose and she realized that it was going to be one of those summer days -- the blisteringly hot ones. Not to be deterred, however, she sauntered into the house, grabbed a washcloth from the bathroom, and jammed it in her back pocket -- the one with the twins, who quickly got between her butt and the washcloth, hoping it might cushion the inevitable sitting. But as Olivia walked back outside, she was hit with a wall of heat, and began to sweat once more as she made her way to the bench. But did she need to use the washcloth before she plopped down? indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
