Blaze had no idea how long she slept. When her eyes finally opened, she saw a yellow sky. Was it still evening, or was she sleeping all through the night? She shrugged; it didn't matter. There was nothing she had to do today - no world to defend, no disputes to settle, not even a cat up a tree she had to help. All that mattered to her now was her brand new bed. She panned her head upward to look at his face, and smiled at what she saw. His face had become a round, doughy ball ringed with spines, its softness and smoothness lending it a near-cherubic charm. His relaxed expression and closed eyes only made him look more adorable, like a great big teddy bear that had somehow gone to sleep. Reaching out, she gently stroked his soft, spongy cheek.
He was so adorable.
Readying herself for another snooze, Blaze stretched... and felt a strange, rubbing sensation along her back. Looking up, she saw she was inches away from the ceiling. Blaze looked back at Silver, puzzled. He didn't gain any weight while I slept, did he? she thought to herself. Carefully so as not to wake him, Blaze crawled down his sloping waist, noticing how little he had gained after that spurt, if anything. There was still no risk of the room falling apart at the seams. As she reached out for the floor, she gaped for a moment when her paw grasped at thin air. Silver, and she, were levitating.
Crawling back up, Blaze looked back at Silver's face and pondered. She was always accustomed to his telekinetic capabilities, but they always required a conscious effort. She examined his face closely; there was no strain there. There didn't seem to be evidence of any activity save for a gentle nap.
Still got it!
Blaze jumped. Her head darted from side to side. She knew she heard Silver's voice, but the great big bed of a hedgehog had not twitched a facial muscle, let alone move his lips. What was going on?
Sorry. Couldn't... Ted to... 'f I... mind...
She looked back at his smiling, sleeping face. Telepathy, she thought, and it seemed he was just getting to grips with the basics; the second message was weaker and less distinct, like static on a radio.
She shrugged. With his new-found immobility, of course he would rely on his telekinesis! No skin off my nose, she thought, as she curled back on his warm, fluffy mane and went back to sleep.
