Trent froze, feeling a sharp pain puncture his waist. It travelled up his body, like burning ice through his veins. Poison. He thought.
Turning back he witnessed his attacker in all it's dread. Glistening black scales bled shadows, eyes milky white, and it's body trembling as though fighting against itself. It's silver teeth drooled a black ichor like tar. Dark violet crystals ravaged it's body, breaking through the scales and skin beneath that bled the same sickening substance.
Trent couldn't help but pity the creature. What once might have been a dragon, was corrupted and twisted into something else now.
Trent pulled himself off it's spined tail, falling back in time to evade the headman's bite. Winching in pain as his rear struck rough stone. Fighting through it, he summoned the necessary incantations to defend himself into his mind and...
Trent flinched, grabbing his head as a dark flower bloomed. He witnessed something, a pair of violet eyes burrowing into him. The maw of a great dragon and a unimaginably powerful intellect behind it. He tried to resist, but his fortress of intellect was nothing in comparison to the ocean of power that clashed against it.
"Who are you..?" Trent pushed staring into the nothingness. It wasn't here, somewhere far.
It ignored him, this creature didn't lower itself to speak with insects. He could feel it probing his mind searching for something... The egg flashed before his eyes and for a brief moment he sensed weakness. Fear even.
Leveraging his strength he threw himself against the vulnerability.
The dragon creature recoiled and hissed leaping towards his robe for the egg. Your mind was a jumbled mess, far beyond your capacity to perform magic. So instead, you did what came naturally and rolled over putting your body between the monster and it's objective.
You winced in pain as jagged talons sliced into your back. In response to your continued resistance it lunged for your neck, aiming to deliver a killing blow but then something unexpected happened...
The cave exploded in prismatic light. A shrill and blood curdling shriek echoed about the cave. You shuddered, hearing the sound of crushing bones and glass. The squelching of blood, and finally... Silence.
You willed yourself to look, but the poison and exhaustion was taking hold. Your energy waned and darkness took you.
