In the middle of the night, when everyone were sleeping deeply, a intruder sneaked into the house. It was Nemu.
Her lack of presence and her natural quietness allowed her to go through a house full of skillful shinigami undetected until her destination, Ichigo's room.
She was wearing another injection with her, a reinforcement dose of the Serum XH-19 for Toushirou.
According to Mayuri's files, the serum should have taken effect almost immediately after applying it, but the captain didn't showed any significant change until he left Seireitei and out of Nemu's sight. Everything pointed out the experiment had being a failure.
But after years working for Mayuri, Nemu had developed a moral code which the first rule was "Don't accept failures and keep working until you get the perfect results which please your master". So she was going to give the serum a second try.
She had traced his test subject to that room. When she opened that door, she observed it was too dark to distinguish anything. She could perceive Toushirou's presence and someone else's, but she wasn't sure where they were. A intruder can't turn the lights on, so she advanced carefully until she located the boys. Then she realized both figures were as big as the average male teenager.
That discovery pleased her. The serum had worked, although she had expected greater effects (she had injected him the same amount of serum that turned a scrawny man called Jidanbou into the giant guardian of Seretei). He didn't look like a child anymore, but he was still far from the image Rangiku had described to her:
"The most sexy, handsome man on all Seretei. Incredible tall, fit and manly where it counts"
It was obvious that the results weren't the expected and wouldn't have satisfied Mayuri, if that were his experiment.
She remembered she still had another syringe and got ready to inject him.
'If a dose the serum can only grew him that little, a second dose would make him as big and Kenpachi and stop there. That should be enough for Rangiku.' But then the shinigami vacillated 'But the serum is unstable, and if he hadn't stop growing, another dose could make him a real giant...'
She thought again about Rangiku's request 'She asked me to make his incredible tall, fit, manly-where-it-counts, sexy... even if he becomes a giant, he would not only have all those qualities, he would be tallest, fittest, manliest and sexiest shinigami in the world. Rangiku couldn't be more pleased, and it would be the perfect result and conclusion for this experiment.'
Her mind was made up. She was going to inject it to Toushirou... but it was so dark she wasn't sure which one of the pair was him.
