Your lips had barely touched her beak when your stomach roared for sustenance. You swiftly pulled back in embarrassment, heat rising in your cheeks as you aborted your impulsive run to first base.
The raven was clearly amused by your bright red face as she said, "I think you better feed that monster."
You were still far too embarrassed to speak so you just nodded your head dumbly in agreement before you turned and got to work on your pitiful cheese sandwich. After a few unappetizing bites you decided you needed a drink if you were going to finish your unholy creation. That train of thought also brought along the realization that you never offered your guest a drink.
"Anemone, I'm going to the kitchen to get a drink. Do you want one?" you asked the raven as you picked up the plate and got to your feet.
Anemone nodded before she looked at you with hopeful eyes and asked, "Can I come with you?"
"Sure." you replied with what you hoped was a warm smile, watching the enthused bird get up from her seat. Turning around, you made your way to the kitchen with Anemone in tow, her claws rapping on the hard wood floor.
You put the plate on the kitchen table as you passed and was about to open the fridge when you heard the sound of wings flapping. Quickly looking over your shoulder, you saw Anemone's animal form alight upon the table near your plate, the black bird tilted her head this way and that as she looked around the room with obvious interest.
Seeing that there was nothing to worry about you returned to the task at hand and opened the refrigerator. You scanned it's contents only a moment before grabbing the apple cider, deciding to play it safe; God knows what would happen if you gave the curious raven something alcoholic or caffeinated.
"So where do you rest for the night?" you asked over your shoulder as you closed fridge and opened the cabinet beside it that held the cups.
"I roost in a friend's nest that's in the forest," came her reply as you fished out some clear, hard plastic cups.
"Who's your friend?" you asked as you turned around and walked to the table, Anemone examining what you were carrying as you approached. The raven answered your question just as you placed the items on the table.
