A mysterious book allows you to disguise yourself as anyone.

This choice: Abandon Chelsea.  •  Go Back...
Chapter #20

Abandon Chelsea.

    by: Seuzz Author IconMail Icon
You quickly call Prescott. He's frantic when you answer. "What the hell is going on? I'm getting death threats!"

"Yeah, I know. Meet me over at—" You slam on the breaks and do quick U-turn in the middle of the street. Cars and trucks swerve and blare their horns at you. "Meet me at the clubhouse."

You're not much farther down the street when another thought hits you. You make another U-turn—thank God there are no cops around, but all the drivers on the street are probably cursing you out—and rush back to Blackwell's long enough to pick up Jared's mask and clothes.

The switch-back at the clubhouse goes smoothly enough, though "Will Prescott" has to squeeze into Chelsea's clothes and into her car beforehand. When he's positioned, you rip the mask off, putting the real Chelsea back in commission, and hightail it down into the basement before she wakes. There, you change into Jared and set off back for Blackwell's, using a combination of hiking, bus rides, and cabs. You're worn out with stress by the time you get back.

Upstairs, you fall onto your bed and groan. You have the Prescott, Yumi, and Chelsea masks, all of which are now useless. (You also have a set of Prescott clothes.) You could put the Prescott mask on the golem in the corner and send it home, but that's Blackwell's golem. You drum your fingers and think impatiently through the possibilities.

Stick Prescott's face and clothes on some random person? Who? A homeless guy? That seems like the best possibility, and easy to accomplish. There are scads of them downtown, lurking in alleys. But it's a waste of a mask. You'll never retrieve it, and it would stink to lose one of the three golems you've budgeted yourself. Maybe Prescott should just disappear—not even with a bang.

You're turning over these possibilities when you hear a noise downstairs. You sit up, listen, and then bolt over to the stairs. Lucy Vredenburg is coming up.

"Christ, don't you ever check the messages," she asks peevishly as she passes you. "Blackwell's been calling you. You're supposed to let me in." You gape and hurry down to check the house cell phone. Sure enough, he's called multiple times, each time telling you to let Lucy go about her business. He doesn't sound angry, but he doesn't sound happy, either.

The big problem with getting downtown is, well, getting downtown. You used all the cash from Prescott's pockets just getting back to the house, and there's no money in house. If you're going to put the Prescott mask on a homeless guy, you'll have to ask Lucy for a ride downtown and for cab fare back.

You have the following choices:

*Pen*
1. Ask Lucy for a ride.

2. Sit it out.

*Pen* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
