A mysterious book allows you to disguise yourself as anyone.

This choice: Become one of Chelsea's friends on the cheerleading team  •  Go Back...
Chapter #13

With Friends Like These...

    by: imaj Author IconMail Icon
“Who did you have in mind,” you say weakly. “Which of your friends do you want me to… Um… replace?

“Oh, I haven’t decided yet.” Chelsea responds airily. “So many of them just aren’t pulling their weight right now, letting the team down. We should pick the right one so the others…”

Pour encourager les autres,” you mumble, exhausting your sparse knowledge of French.

“What,” asks Chelsea, bewildered.

“It’s French,” you stammer. “It means picking out one person so the rest of them get the idea.”

“The French have a word for that,” asks Chelsea, brightening considerably. “Wow. If ‘d known that I might have paid more attention in class. That’s really clever. You’re really clever sometimes Will. That’s exactly what I need on the team.”

Only I guess you can’t tell the rest of the team what really happened,” you continue without thinking. “Because you have to keep the book secret. They’ll only be able to see that one of your friends is behaving a little differently and try to work out why.”

“Oooh. I like that. Whatever reason they come up with on their own will be so much better at bringing them into line than anything I could tell them,” says Chelsea with a surprising insight. You guess that Chelsea’s intellect, while overall not great, is highly developed in certain, very specific, areas. “You’re showing some hidden depths Will, don’t you think so Gordon baby? Will has hidden depths.”

“Yes Chelsea,” rumbles the golem behind you.

“Who needs to be made an example of then?”

“Kendra,” says Chelsea, sucking on her teeth. “She’s getting uppity, thinks she’s as important to the team as I am.”

Chelsea’s revelation doesn’t surprise you as Kendra is, by reputation, more of an ally than a friend to her. The stories go that Kendra is as manipulative as Chelsea, she just isn’t as good at it. If she were a little better, Kendra would be running the school’s social scene. As it is, she’s just biding her time and waiting for Chelsea to slip up. It occurs to you suddenly that Chelsea taking an interest in someone like you could be exactly the slip up Kendra is waiting for.

“Kendra wouldn’t be bad,” you concur, thinking for a moment on her body. Exotic, like a Nubian princess rather than Chelsea’s all-American beauty. You could do worse. “Is there anyone else?”

“Gloria,” ask Chelsea, more to herself than to you. “No Gloria is more likely to fall in line if Kendra does than Kendra is likely to fall in line if Gloria does. Michelle? You wouldn’t want to be Michelle. I don’t think Michelle wants to be Michelle. Ooooh, Maria.”

That Chelsea would even consider Maria is surprising, since she is the closest thing to an actual, genuine, friend for Chelsea. Guileless and sweet, you’d almost feel guilty about stealing Maria’s life. Except for that perfect, perfect ass. And those legs, the long, taut, legs. And the perfect complexion and beautiful face, that will be so much more beautiful once you get Maria perplexed expression off it. Ok, her boobs aren’t as big as, say, Chelsea’s or the Garners’, but they are oh-so-perky.

You gasp involuntarily at the thought of it all.

“You like the idea of Maria,” snickers Chelsea. “I thought you might. Seriously, she is such a ditz. If I’d asked her to help fix Gordon he’d still be a statue.”

Actually, Maria is in a swath of AP classes, but that’s because her father sits on the school board. That’s what everyone says, anyway.

“So Kendra or Maria,” finishes Chelsea. “And we can use the loft here to work on the book.”

“To free Black and Patterson. Gordon and Steve I mean,” you reply.

“Yeah, that…” says Chelsea unenthusiastically.

“There’s one problem I can see though,” you explain with what in hindsight will probably seem like a reckless disregard for your own wellbeing.

“Oh,” says Chelsea, icily politely.

“Wouldn’t people think it odd if Kendra or Maria suddenly started coming up here a lot?”

“Well, no,” says Chelsea, clearly unsure of herself. Her eyes flick about the room for a second before coming to rest on the golemized body of Steve Patterson. “Because…”

“Oh no,” you murmur, realizing where Chelsea’s train of though is leading her.

“Because she’d be up here with Steve. Imagine, being the girl that finally ties down Setve Patterson,” sniggers Chelsea, seeing the horrified expression on your face. “Oh you don’t need to actually fuck him, just so long as everyone thinks you’re fucking him. Unless you really want to.”

“But… but… but… Everyone knows he’s with someone different each week.”

“Everyone will just have to be surprised,” says Chelsea before adding darkly: “Steve will do exactly what I tell him to do. Now.”

“I guess I’ve got no choice in the matter, do I,” you ask, resigned to your fate.

“You really are cleverer than you look Will. Don’t be so down,” she continues, smiling wolfishly. “Think of it as getting a free upgrade to first class on a plane trip. I’ll even let you chose. Kendra or Maria?”
