Being a student again didn't seem like much fun to you, but if it got you close to your targets you'd put up with it. However there was an issue. Despite the fact that you were good enough on computers that you knew you could set up fake IDs etc to get in, there was one bit you couldn't fake easily.
Family.
The school would expect to meet with your parent/guardians before you could get in. For that you'd need help. Only problem was you weren't on good terms with any of your old foster parents, let alone well enough for them to fake being your current guardian. There was a solution, but you didn't like it. You had a couple of friends from before (you tended to be a loner most of the time in school) but Jenny was sort of short and you didn't think there was any way she'd look like a parent. This unfortunately left you with Sally. You were sure she could look the part, but you two weren't that close and you weren't sure she'd keep up the pretense. She had a famously short attention span.
Still, she was the only person you could count on, and at least you knew she'd be up for this kind of thing in spirit. She hated authority figures at school and would love to put one over on them, if she could keep it up long enough without loosing interest in the whole thing.
Plus there was the whole matter that you couldn't tell her why you were doing this.
"Alice! Hey, long time no see!" Sally gushed on the phone. "Dang, it's been, what, a week? Thought you'd be living it up out there. Got a job yet girl?"
You sighed. This was going to be awkward.
"Not exactly Sally, but I do have something I have to do. There is something I'm looking into at Pembridge High, but to really get the dirt on it I'm going to have to pretend to be a student. I can get most of that but I need someone to act as my Guardian there. Think you can help me out?"
"Oh hell yeah! Heh, those fuddy duddies won't know what hit 'em!"
You rolled your eyes. You were pretty sure no one said that any more. Hadn't for ages. Where did she even pick up the phrase 'fuddy duddy' anyway?
"OK, well we'll need to practice making you up to look older. I've got a new apartment out here, I'll text you the address." you said. That way if she forgot she'd have the text to look up. Sally's memory was not something to rely upon much.
"Ooh that sounds like fun. Kinda like being a spy eh? I'll be over."
