(A/N: Forgive me for copy-pasting Lyra's background and relationship with Ethan onto Crystal; there really wasn't much else for me to work with. ^^;; Don't worry, if nothing else, Crystal's personality will probably end up different from Lyra's...)
'Eh...I've got better things to do than bother random strangers,' thought Crystal, turning away from the strange kid and waddling toward the entrance of Elm's lab. Preoccupied with thoughts of finally getting a Pokemon of her own, she did not notice the door opening as she approached, nor did she see what was emerging from it...at least until she felt something soft and squishy impact against her massive gut. "Huh?"
Looking up, Crystal saw that the person who bumped into her was none other than her next-door neighbour and long-time friend, Ethan. The aforementioned "soft and squishy" object that had hit her was his own belly; Ethan happened to be the one person in New Bark Town whom Crystal knew to be as fat as she was. Indeed, he may have actually been a tad bigger...from where she was standing, the blue-haired girl could see that his favourite red sweater rode up a considerable ways over his multi-rolled gut, and the rest of his body filled out his clothes just as thoroughly. She happily noted the friendly smile on his chubby face, which made his rounded cheeks dimple cutely.
"'Morning, Crystal!" he greeted jovially. "I guess you're here to get a Pokemon from Professor Elm, too, huh?" Reaching toward his right pocket, he lifted a roll of fat out of the way and pulled out a small, round object, which Crystal was able to identify as a Poke Ball. "I already got mind," continued Ethan, tossing the ball to the ground and releasing a tiny, blue-and-white furred Pokemon with eyes that seemed perpetually shut; a Cyndaquil! "Yep, this little guy's name is 'Inferno'; I just got him a few minutes ago. No need to rush, though, since the Prof.'s still got a few others left." Recalling Inferno to its spherical container, Ethan wobbled off on his merry way, his pet Marrill emerging from behind him (Crystal had initially not noticed the aquatic mouse, seeing as it had been hidden behind its owner's bulk the whole time) and bouncing along with him.
"Wait, where are you going now?" asked Crystal. "Oh? I was just heading off to pick up some breakfast; walking all the way to the lab builds up an appetite, you know!" The portly young lass recalled that the two of them often enjoyed eating together...however, she also remembered that she'd just finished breakfast, and still had a task to fulfill...
