Keep thinking

Then again, there was Jackie. Jackie and Dave had been close longer than any of the others in the group. She was the girl next door, in every meaning of the term... except she lived a couple of blocks away. Maybe one of the reasons they became close, is that Jackie used to be fat. She had fluctated with her weight for a while, but for about 6 straight years or so she had kept a slim trim figure. Althoguh unlike her, he had been unable to shift his weight, they'd stayed friends ever since.

But what if she hadn't gotten fit, and instead had remained big ever since?
