No, he couldn't wait to gather more information. He had to act fast to set the trap! The king turned cat burst out of his hiding spot, making enough noise to get the female knight to turn her head.
"It's a kitty!" she said excitedly as she turned to see the cat start to run from them.
"Looks like we spooked it," the prince replied as he turned and watched the cat rush away, nearly tripping a maid along the way.
Arthras successful made it back to his private chamber. The lack of hands made drinking the reset potion difficult, forcing him to resort to knocking it over and lapping it up off the floor. Fortunately this worked, and the king found himself human once more.
"Marlin!" the restored king called out as he rushed into the wizard's lab. "I've found a way to get rid of that playboy prince for good."
"Your majesty, I thought we agreed not to kill him."
"No, I don't mean get rid of him that way, I mean a way to stop him from ever showing his face in Traeven again!" Arthras told Marlin what he overheard.
"Well I suppose we could leave an enchanted dress where the prince can find it. However, there's no guarantee he'd try it on, even if what you overheard indicates he likes to wear dresses, as opposed to circumstances resulting in it against his wishes."
"You can put a compulsion spell on the dress so he'd be drawn to it."
"Which would be quickly discovered. For this plan to work, he must willingly try on the dress because he wants to, not because he needs a disguise, got tricked, or magic compels him to."
"You do have a point... But I'm confident he will. So let's figure out what kind of spell to put on it that won't compel him to wear it."
"Perhaps a spell that prevents him from removing it? As long as he chooses to wear it initially, it should be fine."
"I like it, but how about a spell that turns him into a girl. Not all at once, slowly, and he, or rather she won't change back when the dress is taken off."
"Devious, your majesty. Although if we push too far, we risk the war reigniting."
"So we'll clearly mark the dress as cursed. Then he can't complain when the changes begin."
"Very well, your majesty, I'll begin right away."
It didn't take Marlin long. The castle had plenty of dresses, and he was quite skilled with enchantments. The tricky part would be putting the dress where Kelos would find it. The wizard decided on the room next to his, which had been kept locked and unused while he was visiting. However, the next time he would leave he'd find that very much not the case.
Kelos stepped out of his room to find that useless scribe who had made himself scarce ever since they arrived. Probably hiding in the library, the prince thought. As he decided to look there, he noticed the door to the room next to his ajar. It had been kept locked for security, so investigating might be warranted. He looked through the crack in the door, and saw the room looked untouched. Perhaps a guard making the rounds had just neglected to relock it? Still, he cautiously opened the door and looked in.
The room was decorated as if for a lady, there was a vanity with a mirror, all sorts of make up sitting on it. The bed had light sheets with a ruffled trim. In the corner there was a dress dummy, and on it was a lavender gown that looked to be ready to wear to a ball. It reminded Kelos of one of his sister's dresses he had worn as a child.
