Saria, the Sage of the Forest, wandered through an uncharted area of the Lost Woods, deep in thought. She deeply loved Link, who'd been a dear friend, but due to the fact that she was a Kokiri, and he was a Hylian, she could never truly be with him, since she could never age beyond that of a child. Not only that, but she was also, compared to her fellow Sages, the weakest.
True, she could manipulate plant life as she saw fit, but she did not have the strength of Darunia, the guile of Impa, and many other things that she lacked. Link had gone on a journey of self-discovery a few years after he had returned from the future; with his foreknowledge, the Sages are awakened, and Ganonodrf was cast into the Sacred Realm. Saria did not wish to be weak and useless now, and wanted nothing more than to be with Link.
