Your mother has been more than a guardian angel to you your whole life, making a great effort and numerous sacrifices just to keep you alive. It's not everyday you get an opportunity to lend her a helping hand in return, so you make sure to take your chances when you get them. Looking up into her sky eclipsing eyes you say, "Fine, I'll help. --Or at least try to."
"Thanks, hon'." She says in response. "I'm sure it won't be as hard as you're imagining it to be." The next thing you knew you were standing on top of your mom's open palm as she carried you into the kitchen.
With a hint of pride in her voice, your mother announces, "Here it is!" as she kneels herself down to be even with the kitchen counter and drops you onto the edge of a disturbingly large snack tray. Lined with various crackers and cheeses of differing colors and lengths, this behemoth of a spread has alternating spirals of meat, veggies and fruits leading to a hexagon center of seven unique dips.
"Wh-- What the hell is all of this? You want me to carve designs into everything on this tray, by tonight?"
"Oh hush, it's not as big as it looks. It's only for 6 people. Besides, I already did all of the big cuts, you just need to do the detail work."
"Okay, and what kind of details are we talking about?"
Your mom pulls out a small drawn diagram filled with elaborate floral shapes and patterns and props it up in front of the tray. "You just need to climb into the divots I've made on the cheese and crackers and fill them with the patterns you see here. That shouldn't be too hard for you right?"
With one glance at the sheet she laid on the counter you can safely estimate the difficulty of this task to be somewhere between, arguably impossible, and completely impossible. Regardless, you still want to help. "Well I-- I already agreed to help, so I'll see what I can do."
A smile shoots across your mother's face as stands up. "I'll swing by every once in a while to check up on you and your progress. Also, I don't want to leave the tray sitting out in the open air for too long, so please try to be fast, and don't get too into your work." After setting up a small makeup mirror next to the snacks and tilting it downwards slightly, so that you can have a better view of the tray, your mother leaves the room.
