Chapter #6

Submission

Ten minutes later, Felix would come back to the cell to feed the dragon once more, and in those ten minutes, the dragon thought long and hard about the possibility of having the human as a friend. it was clear to the dragon that the boy was in the same sort of situation as it was. The boy had obviously been under the evil man's abuse for a very long time, longer than the dragon had been under his abuse. With the similarities, it is possible for two to become friends even if it was a human and a dragon becoming friends. The dragon had heard of stories from the older dragons about dragons befriending humans in similar circumstances.

"And let's face it," the dragon added to its thoughts, "None of the other humans that come in here and torture me are going to be willing to be a friend. This boy might be the only suitable friend, even though he's still frightened of me."

Soon the dragon began to wonder if it really needed a human friend at all. All the humans it had seen so far were wicked creatures who took pleasure in torturing the dragon, all except the boy of course. Did it really need a find? "I do," the dragon sighed, "This is a terribly dark and depressing place full of pain and anguish. If I were to try and fight these humans alone, I might fall into a state I could not come back from. The torture and loneliness will get to me and I might fall victim to the evil man, no matter how much I wish it not to happen."

The dragon knew that it would try to fight off the torturers with every once of life it had, but deep down inside, it knew that it might not be enough. No matter how proud of a creature it was and no matter how much it wanted to be independent, it knew that it couldn't do it alone. It could face the darkness without someone else. "A friend would be able to help me fight off the evil man's control. The boy might not be able to fight like I can, but he could comfort me and be there for me when times grow darker. I know that some time, I will need a friend and right now, the human is the only option."

Before the dragon could think about regretting its decision on leaving the family to be off on its own, the door opened and the human with the cart entered.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------

While Felix had prepared the cart for the dragon, Felix thought about everything that had happened. "The dragon could have ate me last night, but it didn't. Instead, it ate the meat I brought it and while I was unconscious it..." Felix thought.

Felix shook his head and muttered, "The dragon only brought it close to me so it could eat me as a breakfast snack."

"Yet, it didn't eat me when it had the chance. The dragon had been awake long enough to eat me, but instead, it let me go. It could have chased after me, but it..." Felix though.

However, he interrupted his thoughts once more and whispered, "The dragon was probably just tired. it probably loosened it grip when it feel asleep and was too groggy in the morning to realize I had the opportunity to escape. That's the most logical reason, right?"

However, something inside of Felix wasn't entirely sure about it. The dragon had been being tortured for a few weeks now and it was probably ready to give into Lord William. The dragon did seem different that morning. It was possible that the dragon realized that Felix wasn't doing anything to harm the dragon while other humans kept hurting it. It was a child after all as the guards had said and the dragon might want something else other than the torture it had been receiving.

Felix remembered the first days of being a slave. For the longest time, he had felt alone, and he still did. There was no one to care about him and no one that could give him the love and friendship he needed. He had been in a dark nightmare for as long as he could remember, and it was possible the dragon was starting to fell the same way. It was possible that if Felix showed the dragon it wasn't alone and that he could be there for it then...

"But dragons just beasts, aren't they? They can't possibly feel the same way as humans do, can they?" Felix questioned.

Before Felix could think upon it any farther, the cell door opened and he pushed the cart in. Felix noticed that the dragon was on the edge once more, but it wasn't standing tall and proud like it usually did. Instead, it was on its stomach with its head flat on the ground.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------

The dragon positioned itself in a submissive stance to try and show the human it meant the boy no harm. The dragon's pride stung, but it knew that if it was to befriend the human, it would have to show the human it meant no harm, and since the human was so frightened of it, the dragon had to lie on the ground with its head flat on the ground. It could only hope that the human would understand.
