Steven woke up moments ago, his head pounding. A low static grazes his ears, and as he waits for the feeling to fade - it never comes. This is worse than a hangover. He thought. At least if he had been drunk, morning him would know that he had fun.
Maybe the hospital has something to do with this? His thoughts offered.
He groaned. In hindsight, he should've known to ask someone or even get a stool, but in the moment he only thought about grabbing it and getting it to Chad ASAP. And that meant possibly knocking it over.
Steven let out a sigh. At least it was Saturday. A scent tickled his nostrils, causing his mouth to water. His boyfriend was up and cooking.
Lucky me. He thought, pulling himself out of bed.
As he trudged from the bedroom to the kitchen, he called for Chad.
"Chad."
He got no response. Steven let out a dramatic sigh. He loved Chad, but when the man got in his element, nothing could come between him and what he was doing. Cooking, chemistry, cuddling - Chad was a man of focus, but that also meant that getting his attention was tricky at times. But Steven never let that deter him.
"Chad!" He said louder, a little playful.
"Yea?" Chad replied, not taking his eyes off the stove.
Steven couldn't help but feel a bit of déjà vu, but he couldn't put his finger on what it was. He decided to switch topics.
"Did you manage to save some of stuff you were working on?"
Chad sighed as he grabbed plates to put the breakfast in. "Yea," he managed, but the way his shoulder's heaved told Steven that it wasn't the whole story. He nudged his boyfriend. "And..."
Chad plated the food, not even acknowledging the gesture. "And...we're gonna have to start part of it over. Me and the guys are going to the lab this weekend to try making the formula again."
Steven bit his lip. "I'm sorry."
Chad didn't flinch. "I told you, it wasn't your fault. I put it so high up that I wasn't even thinking when I told you to get it."
Steven's worried expression morphed into a smirk. "So it's your fault...for not thinking about how much shorter I am?"
Chad grinned, not making eye contact with his lover as he brought the plates to the dining room. "Exactly!"
