Cathy recalled her conversation with Tom and decided to let Tom be her foot, so that Emily and Tom would get acquainted. It also might prepare Tom for getting the pebble out of her other shoe if he knew how much her foot hurt. Tom had just ruined Cathy's favorite flowers-he got sick of looking at them anyway.
