Up on the sixth floor, the Higgins family was settling into the two adjacent rooms they had been provided with, Ben, his brother Robert and his son Jason were in one room and Ben's wife Veronica was in the next room with her two daughters Melissa and Rebecca.
"Mom, how long are we going to be here?" Rebecca asked in her sweet, innocent sounding voice.
"Just a day or two sweetie" Veronica answered with a smile, as she started getting a few personal items out of her bag such as her toothbrush and other 'feminine' items.
Melissa sighed from across the room as she slumped into a chair. "That's a day or two too long for me" she grumbled as she crossed her shapely legs and adjusted her bra strap.
Veronica gave her eldest child a glare but refrained from verbally responding to her complaining at first. "I'm going out for a walk" a bored Melissa suddenly stated.
"Its still raining, do you really want to get wet?" her mother responded.
"Shit!" I'm already hating this place" Melissa growled, as she impatiently paced the room, not knowing quite what to do with herself.
"Watch your language," Veronica warned her, "and why don't you watch TV, I'm sure there'll be a talk show on?" she then suggested to her daughter.
"Whatever! It isn't like I have a choice of recreational activity" Melissa muttered, as she walked over to the TV and started flicking through the channels. After a while Rebecca sat beside her older sister, and a few minutes later they both seemed quite content. Meanwhile, their mother had got her favorite bath salts, body wash and shampoo out of her bag and was headed into the bathroom. If there was one thing Veronica hated it was feeling damp after being caught out in the rain, her hair particularly seemed to suffer. The actual bath however would have to wait until she had plucked her eye brows and applied some anti-wrinkle cream, as she always did.
Meanwhile in the next room, Ben had already found the TV and was watching the back end of a hockey game, his occasional shouting and criticizing of the players could be heard by Melissa and Rebecca in the next room.
"Men are real babies when it comes to sports!" Melissa told her little sister as she rolled her eyes.
Rebecca just giggled in response.
"Hey Ben, I'm hungry, how about we order something to eat?" Robert shouted to his brother as he walked through from a bedroom.
"Sure I could devour a cheeseburger or something" his distracted brother replied, without even trying to draw his eyes away from the TV.
Robert just shook his head and laughed. "I was thinking more along the lines of a proper meal rather than the kind of meal that can give you a heart attack" he said, "In any case, this isn't McDonalds, I very much doubt they do any fast food" he added.
"Well, you probably have to go down to dinner anyway instead of having it brought up" Ben muttered, "And I ain't going nowhere til the game has finished...awww sheesh, how did you miss that you asshole??" he added, as he suddenly shouted abuse at one of the hockey players.
"Fine, we'll all go down to get something to eat in a bit" Robert said, as he looked over at his nephew who was on his PSP game console. "You up for something eat sport?" he asked Jason in a loud clear voice.
Jason just shrugged. "Yeah fine, just let me know when we're going to get something" he muttered in response without looking up, much like his father.
Robert ran his hand across his head and shook his head again, knowing that nothing short of the building being on fire was going to shift his brother and his nephew from their positions. He just tried ignoring the rumbling of his stomach and sat beside his brother to watch the hockey.
