You awake the next morning having gotten a surprisingly good nights sleep. Tony sure seemed to be in good spirits again last night, you think to yourself. I guess me being here is going to have a positive effect on him. I'm glad that I am the one who is able to bring him out of his funk. He deserves it, you think, he's a nice guy.
You get dressed for the day, making sure to put on your own shoes this time. You think again about unpacking your things, but you just can't bring yourself to disturb how her room currently is. You want to preserve her memory.
You head downstairs were Tony has waffles on the table. "Morning," he says.
"Hey Tony," you reply as you dig in.
"So listen John. Since I was out of work for so long I'm going to have to work this weekend and possibly the weekend after that in order to catch up with
everything." Tony says. "However, once I do get caught up I was thinking that maybe do some guy stuff together, like go bowling or to the football game. I can even talk my friends into you joining for our poker nights."
"Sure Tony, I'd like to hang out with you whenever you have the time. I don't know too many people around here."
"Just give it time, you'll get to know the people around here. By the way, I noticed you still haven't unpacked yet"
You shrugged and said "Yeah, I know I need to, but not just yet. I want to keep her room the way it is, you know? It's kind of like a portal to the past,
like she is still alive."
"I understand John. I don't want to force you to do anything you don't want to do. You can unpack whenever you feel ready."
"Thank you Tony. Say, you don't think that Megan's spirit is somehow still in her room, and that she was the one who made me decide to leave my things in the boxes?"
Tony finished his breakfast and stood up. "John, my boy, I know its nice to thing that our dearly departed loved ones are still floating around us somehow. But that's all it is, a thought with no evidence to back it off. I know you may want to believe that Megan caused you to feel that way. But believe me, the decision not to unpack came from no one but yourself. You are the only one responsible for the decisions that you make. I gotta go, see you tonight."
As Tony left, you realize that was a silly question. You knew that deep down inside you knew it was you only that made that decision. You feel that if spirits existed, they wouldn't work that way. And although you don't know it, in this universe you are correct about that. Spirits can't effect you mentally or physically. You will be the only one making any decisions in the future.
