Chapter #6

Goes to first period.

Approaching the door to his first lesson, Syoku took a deep breath with his head sinking down, mentally preparing himself for the stares that were about to fall on him. The time he wasted trying to find the room hadn’t made him late, but it didn’t make him early. The crowds in the wide hallways had thinned out, hall monitors were beginning their patrol and the mumbles of moving students had gotten much quieter. He was sure to be greeted by a collection of curious eyes and a teacher who is overly eager to introduce him at the front of them all.

He took another long breath, making it as long as possible to delay himself, twiddling his sweaty toes, feeling the air flow into his nostrils and out of-

“Shit, guess he was right.”

The door whacked Syoku on the nose, the the force slightly pushing him back but making sure to hop away from the full impact of it. Instinctively, the Umbreon lowered his back close to the floor, his eyes glaring forward and his feet ready to pounce or jump away from an attack...but all that stood before him was a yawning Zangoose scratching the mane of fur around his neck.

He, and from his current view there was no mistaking it was a he, was large to be sure. Syoku’s eyes were only level to about the navel of his thick gut. His legs were stumpy but his body was big nonetheless, even his ears seemed a bit longer and sharper than what Syoku expected of a Zangoose. He was intimidating, but that said, the fox didn’t feel as if he had meant any ill will; he was just in the way.

“Who’re you?” The Zangoose’s words struck him, he wasn’t expecting a direct question so quickly. His voice had...presence. It was as if Syoku’s limbs shook at the sound of them, although it had also been quite some time since he had to engage with someone in a conversation. Four seconds passed and he still couldn’t even mutter an answer, but to Syoku it felt like twenty. “...Huh, alright... I’m guessing you’re here for Chemistry?”

"Chemistry? Uh, he’s asking for what lesson I’m here for…" Syoku’s mind was blank for a second, his head scrambling for the schedule in his bag for a second until an answer quickly came to mind. "The lesson on the door's label, of course. The one I was trying to find!"

The Umbreon hastily nodded, cursing himself in his thoughts despite the Zangoose’s indifference.

“Apparently we’re getting an assembly first, then we skip to the second lesson.” The Zangoose rolled his eyes and forced a heavy sigh. “If you don’t know where that is feel free to tag along, I have a pretty good idea going by what I saw on the tour day.”

Syoku looked at his eerie gaze with a shiver, then stared at the empty classroom passed the open door. His ears slowly folded down as his eyes repeated the same process. The Zangoose seemed to pick up on it, rolling his eyes again.

“My name is Zanuff, if that helps. What’s yours?” Again, the Umbreon didn’t reply, and this time the Zangoose was much less patient. “Look, if trying to open your mouth means you can’t start walking, then I’d prefer if you’d just follow me already.”

“Gessyo-uh, mine’s Syoku,” the Umbreon finally managed to stammer out. Zanuff’s gaze fixed on the Umbreon who had broken his eye contact as the Zangoose lowered his upper body to look down at him. As he timidly avoided the large mongoose's gaze, the Umbreon could see the gluttonous Pokemon’s giant shadow on the floor. Needless to say, it didn't make him any more comfortable.

“Weird name… You foreign? Is that why you’re quiet?”

"Your name’s weirder than mine!" he thought, but kept his words to himself. His face betrayed his intentions, however, and a surprised brow raised towards Zanuff as he chuckled at the reaction. Could he trust him? He didn’t exactly look harmless, but what else was there to do? If he was lying, there would be a classroom full of students behind him.

You have the following choices:

*Pen*
1. Follow the Zangoose

2. Wait in the classroom

*Pen* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
