This choice: Spending quality time with the kids • Go Back... Standing in the foyer, you stand and watch as your family enters the house. Your wife snidely says, "So, the jackass scientist finally comes out of the basement..." As she speaks you deftly scan your children to add them to the database. However, before you can scan your wife, she walks out of the room, and you end up scanning a coat rack instead. "Watch the kids. I need a drink..."
Jeff seems as infuriated and distant to you, wandering off and going to the couch, watching TV. However, Sam comes up to you. "Dad... Please say you're done now... We missed you..." Sam had always been something of a daddy's girl, and was close to you. You nod to her. "Yeah... Pretty much. In fact, I might just show you what I've been working on for so long."
Over the next couple of hours, the two of you catch up, chat it up like old times, and you show her the device you've been working on. "I call it 'The Transmogrifier!!'"
"Sorry dad, but the name's a little stuffy."
"You know I'm not the best at naming things. Why do you think I left naming you kids to your mom..." Mentioning mom hit a sore spot with Sam. She had never been close to her, and only tried out for cheerleading to try and appease her, but nothing she ever did satisfied her. It was always 'Jeff, Jeff, Jeff!!' However, she had dirt on her now, and had to share it with her favorite dad in the universe.
"Dad, mom's cheating on you..."
"I understand." you calmly say. You weren't overly upset, knowing the flames of love were ebbing their last these last few years, and despite trying to stoke them, she just didn't ever seem interested, but you never thought she'd go this far.
"I want her to pay..." Sam utters, clenching her fist. She seemed to feel the pain and outrage you should have been feeling right now.
Finally, you decide the relationship was beyond reconciliation. "Alright. How should we do this?"   indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
