Chapter #5Jump realities by: DougTF   There are a lot of things you might want to try, but if you swap with someone, they will be you, and you might not be able to keep track of what they do with your life while you are borrowing yours. But the dream said jump realities: like you can jump into any story or show or movie. Your first thought is to become some awesome character but then you stop. If you jump into some other reality, do you have to do everything that character does? Like, if you become IronMan, do you have to snap and take out Thanos, but then you die? Or can you change what you do?
Pacing, you think and then smile. The main characters actions are pretty well documented, but what about the back up characters and extras? If you jump into one of them, you would be mostly free to just live in that world and explore. Snapping, you think Star Trek would be perfect, and use your phone to look for characters that had minor roles, but enough you could test your idea about whether you are locked into the actions you see on screen. You pause and do a double take when you find Ashley Judd had a minor role on one season of Next Generation, and she didn't die, was promoted, so just.... exists off camera in that universe for who knows how long. She's an engineer, so would know lots of technical stuff, and you bet that if you jumped into her spot in that reality, you would know what she knows. She kissed Wil Wheaton's character at the end of her episode, which doesn't thrill you, but gives you a great way to check if you can change what your character does, or you are locked into their actions in the story.
Besides, being that cheerleader WAS kinda hot, and might be fun to explore being a woman, while you explore Star Trek. Concentrating on her, right before she kisses Wesley and beams off the ship, you snap:
You are standing there in a form fitting yellow engineering uniform, your second pip for your new promotion on your collar, smiling at Wesley Crusher with whom you worked, played games, and developed a relationship as he smiles back at you. This is it, you are about to kiss him:  indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
