Concerned you turn away to go get mom. "You don't know what you're doing! You're messing with power you don't understand, without guideance" a cold voice comes from behind, and you realize its Hayley. You spin around instantly, since your sister never been that cold towards you. Both Megan and Harry look at each other concerned for both you and Hayley, guessing she does have powers.
"I have my book, notes" you protest, but hayley shakes her head sadly. "You, Megan and Harry must have guessed the truth by now, but relax. Apart from a few pranks, I won't 'harm' you with my power ". As she speaks, you see she is sounding more like the sister you missed. You rush over to hug her warmly, but she holds a hand out, if like she needs to say more.
"gnoring both megan and Harry, she turns to you. "Megan and Harry are my friends as well as yours, and I know they won't turn against us, or treat you, Mel or me as freaks, but you took a risk showing them your abilities." You groan, wondering if you have to protect them too, like your family, but Hayley for the first time, smiles, "Sorry you have to hear that, guys, but I need to remind John some people are not like you guys" she says to both Megan and Harry. They smile and tell you that they will call you tomorrow.
As soon as they leave, mom comes in, frowning. "I know what you're been doing, and I'm disapointed you can't trust me to know your secret"
"Like me not knowing about Hayley, or you. I assume you have these powers" you fire back. mom conceeds the point. "You're right, to a point. Hayley, as my oldest daughter required extra training to control her power. That what she been doing. Mel and eventually Hannah will get training from me, and Hayley. You, on the other hand, have been teaching yourself. From Jack's book?"
You look at her surprised. "Jack told me his secret during the last week of his life. I was annoyed with myself since he developed his science as a means to defend himself against my and Catherine's overuse of magic during childhood. Unfortunately his science is highly unstable" You look down, uncomfortable she knows too much about it. Your science is dangerous, and you start thinking mom will try to take it away from you.
"I bet Jack also told you that your science will save your family. I bet you interpreted it as against external threats. Totally wrong. He must have thought you having this could help you defend yourself against Hayley and Mel, making you three even closer, and having the bond, Jack, Catherine and I never had. Unfortunately there are factosr he never considered or even knew."
"What is it" you ask, interested. So far mom hasn't tried to force you to give up your ability, so you're willling to listen. Plus, you're learning more about her ability than she is about yours. "John, all boys in witch families have magic, but its dorment, only accessable if the boy is changed into a girl. Another thing is you have a girl twin. That dormant magic will be brought to the surface and must find an escape. Normally it can't, but you using your science, there is a chance it can. Another thing, you're learning unsupervised, so the chances you you injurying yourself are high. I cannot allow that to happen. I'd rather you hate me than you getting badly injured. I'm sorry, John"
As she says this, she raises her hand, and you realize she is going to cast a spell at you. "Wait, don't cast a spell on me."
