"Anyway, I've good news for both of you." Mom turned to Tessa, smiling. "I'll fund your education Sarah, all of it, all the way up. That's the very least I can do in return."
"Mdm!" Tessa exclaimed with surprise.
"Not to worry," My Mom waved it away generously. "We are more than able to afford it. Besides, you and Jon'll make great friends!"
It seemed like Mom had my entire social life planned out for me. I decided not to tell her that in my school, it was not cool for a boy to hang out with a girl. I'd better things to do anyhow.
I wanted to protest, but my mouth seemed super-glued. Well, it didn't matter because Tessa did it for me. "Um, never mind auntie. You're being too kind. Oh... and I... er can pay the school fees myself."
"Aw, come on! Don't be shy! Besides, I am very sure you two will mix very well together!" My Mom decided.
Tessa grimaced and gave me the evil eye. I merely shuddered and suddenly became very interested with my fingernails. A dead girl attending the same school as me? How bad could it get?
I'd better figure out a way to hop out of this mess.
