"Let her go!" Superman said as he landed several feet away from Melanie and Daniel.
Melanie waved the helpless Daniel in the air as though she were a toy. "And who's gonna make me?"
Superman stepped forward quickly and forced Melanie to open her hand and release Daniel from her grasp. He flew a short distance away to deposit Daniel safely on the ground. "You may have developed your muscles, young lady, but it's disappointing that you haven't also developed your sense of fairness to others weaker than you," he lectured. "Fortunately, my super-strength is far greater than your human muscles, as large as they are."
"Superman. Careful. Her ring. Magic," Daniel warned, as she gasped for breath.
Superman's eyes focused immediately on the ring, which started to glow. He leapt up to reach her and snatch the ring away before she could use it again.
