Steven's mind was running wild with thoughts by the time he arrived at work, the device was still safely in his pocket and he was eager to give it a try. However he knew that caution would be the appropriate course of action. His friends wouldn't notice anything wrong if he did happen to swap them all around, but that wasn't the point. Unlike all the people on TV who went mad when granted amazing powers, Steven was determined not to become one of them. "Hi Steven!" Liz greeted him in her usual cheery tone as he walked in the shop through the 'Goods In' entrance, where the delivery truck was being offloaded.
"Hi Liz!" Steven responded to his supervisor's (and friend's) greeting, waving at her. He then peered past Liz and saw Aaron and Tracey W. (her nickname was "Waggy") shifting some boxes of stock and cardboard. "Hi you two!" he called out to them, just getting a nod back from Aaron, who wasn't normally one for expressing himself. But Waggy was her normal cheery self, as she once again demonstrated. "STEVEN!" she shouted out, grinning broadly.
Steven just smiled, and then walked onto the shop floor, on his way upstairs to put his belongings in his security locker. He saw 18-year old Becky stocking some shelves with some cans of body spray, and he went up behind her sneakily. "BOO!" he startled the girl, poking her in the side.
"Aww bloody hell, you scared me to death!" Becky gasped, before standing up and giving Steven her usual friendly hug.
"Nice to see you too!" he said to her with a smile.
He then headed upstairs and got ready for work, and he saw that everyone else was in the tea room, sat around the table chatting and waiting to start work at 5:45pm. Steven and just about everyone else was glad their usual shift started when the store was closed to customers. But tomorrow was going to be different, as they were all contracted to start work during opening hours, which meant trying to do their work while there was a shop full of customers eager to buy things. None of them were looking forward to coming in to work tomorrow, except maybe Steven now. Steven slowly followed everyone downstairs, and his hand reached into his pocket to check that the remote was still there, which it was.
All Steven could do was grin as a sense of giddyness overcame him.
