All the scans came back negative. But, that was what he had expected. A gas giant just wasn't going to produce the more exotic elements they needed to re-crystalise the Di-lithium matrix.
Tom was sure that, the main reason for the mission was to get him out of the Captain's hair. He knew he could become restless when he spent too long on Voyager. There was also his passenger, he glanced at Lt. Smalls. Well, she wasn't really a passenger, she worked in Engineering... it wasn't her speciality, but then again. Many of the crew weren't filling quite the roles they planned, but that's the nature of their current situation.
Her skills were in exotic particles, and that was good. However, on a ship at the other side of the galaxy it was less than essential. But she worked the scanner, her head barely moving as she read the incoming data. Just the occasional shake to indicate that it was time to move on, and nothing had been detected.
He kept his gaze furtive, as his eyes were always drawn to her swollen breasts, and he didn't need any more hassle from B'lanna. Besides as Voyager's medic, he knew she was in her final trimester. Probably her final week or two. Her belly looked ready to pop.
If anything she was feeling cabin fever more than Tom. She'd been coddled and protected by the whole crew, and a nice simple away mission was a chance for her to get away from... well everything and everyone.
"That's the scan complete." she said with a resigned sigh.
Reading her face, it was easy to see her frustration with the mission and their imminent return to Voyager.
"We don't have to go directly back..." Tom added with his sly smile. A smile that had got him out of many a tight spot with B'lanna and before they met.
