The beginning of the end

You're walking along, minding your own business (as most adventures seem to begin with), when you suddenly see a damsel in distress.

"Save me!" she cries. She is being mugged by a pair of men in black tights. They would seem rather ludicrous if it weren't for the menacing weapons they hold. Ugly is gripping a knife, and Ugly (the other one) is pointing a gun at her temple. At her cry for help, he prods her sharply with the barrel and tells her to shut up. His voice is rough and gravelly.
