Chapter #8

... there may be a human around. +

This intrigues every bit of me, which can only make sense on my part to ask this next question. "Why not send me out directly to find him? I mean, it's only fitting, right?" Perhaps I was a little too excited, but maybe Charizard partially understands why I would ask that. "That is why I didn't ask you to look for him. You're hard to read sometimes, and I have no idea what may be going through your head at times. How am I supposed to know that you will only ask him a bunch of questions about being human? What if you relate to him? I just can't allow that. Deal with it. I'll tell you one more time: you're on break for two weeks. Got it? Get it? Good. Now get outta my face, before I get too annoyed." Now I'm free for two weeks; I depart immediately, for my sake. I don't want to see him get angry again... But still, what am I going to do for the next two weeks? Sure, I have several interests, but I haven't visited my place in a long time since Charizard would keep me busy almost 24/7. The most convenient path to take is through Fist Falls, which I had already made a previous rendezvous with Lucario.

For some reason, he's the only one who I could ever call a friend. However, Lucario would never even consider being my friend since I usually stop by only to collect coins. Meeting him this early morning was mere coincidence. Lucario was collecting some berries, and now walks to his house with his basket half-way full. He stops and sees me walking down the road that cuts through the village, and he eyes me with hostility. "Why are you back here, Zoroark!? Come for more of our coins or something!? Forget it!" I look at him with exhaustion and say "No, I just happen to be passing by..." I don't think Lucario will let me pass even if I'm here for nothing. "Well, forget coming outta here clean! Get ready for a brawl you'll never forget!" Lucario assumes a fighting stance, and I remain as I was earlier: tired and uninterested. "Lucario, you're the last person on the planet I would want to fight. I don't even want to fight."

"Oh, now you're backing off?"
"That's been the plan."
"Give me a ton of reasons I shouldn't have to fight you, and I may let you through."
"Alright. To begin, you're a Fighting type. I already stand at a disadvantage against you."
"You got that right! You'll need a lot more excuses than that!"
"Well, I would think in all honesty that you wouldn't want any trouble either in my shoes."
"Go on..."
"I don't have to take any more money for the next two weeks. I've been given a very, very generous respite from a job I hate with a burning passion."
"Hah! Why would YOU hate your job? You take coins to share with Charizard!"
"I'm given nothing. I do my job to keep his threats from becoming reality. I don't buy food, I usually get it myself in the river, unlike you having the luxury of buying it already cooked."
"I can't even buy anything with no money! How do I know if you're just making all of this up?"
"Do you really want me to say why?"
"Yes. I'll let you leave if you tell me."
"Because if I were to consider anyone as my friend, I'd want you as a friend."
"... Come again?"

Lucario was taken aback by my answer. He may have thought of me as a complete monster before, but to hear that from someone like myself... "... How do I know you're not lying to me...?" I assume I have made a very weak bond with him, one hinting at friendship or maybe even friendly enemies. "I can't tell you that you should believe me, because I actually believe that you may believe me." "Uh...
