"Hm," you regard Laura skeptically, thinking you're quite able to imagine yourself confined to a wheelchair, but not nearly so able to imagine yourself resorting to her kinds of measures by wilful choice. "If I was in your position, I'd still like to think I'd try harder with things like that. I mean, I know it's harder, but..."
"Why don't you try it, then?" Laura cuts you off sharply with a hard eyed glare, making you realise that despite her general good nature, you are skirting a line around genuinely offending her.
"Uh... try what, exactly?" you pause, hesitating, wondering how best to back peddle with your comments should you wish to do so.
"Try being the same as me," Laura scowls at you. "Just for one day. We've got a spare wheelchair. No using your legs, and no doing anything complicated with your arms. I challenge you. Let's see how well you cope. You can show me how well you manage without diapers, for a start."
"Um... I'm not sure how practical that would be..." you stare.
"Mum would help you, same as she does for me," Laura shrugs. "I promise, there's no better way to understand. So yeah; I dare you. Prove to me you can cope and I'll give up diapers, if that's still what you think I should do."  indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
