You walk to the exact spot of the drop-off, in a ridge between two cliffs.
"Hello Goddess, I have your sacrifice for you," you call. She's usually already here. She's never kept you waiting before. Something's up.
You hear a faint rustle behind you. You flip around and the cart is gone. You're nervous: she's never crept up on you like that. You shout out again and hear some rocks tumbling in front of you. You turn around and are instantly snatched up by giant fingers. She's dangling you by the shirt in front of her face. Your offering cart is in her palm.
"This seems a little short this time," she bellows, tossling the cart up and done until the wheels break and the containers fall directly onto her palm. "Is this some kind of joke? How could these meager rations feed me. I need at least triple this."
"You said a fifth of all we grow. We had a drought this year!"
"Why should that concern me? I can easily hand you over to your enemies and receive food from them. Or better yet, I could raid your village myself. Do you want me to do that?"
"No goddess."
"Then give me more food!"
"Please we've been starving. We gave you a fifth of our stuff and look how meager it is. We can barely manage as is."
"That's not my problem," she bellowed. "All I've done is protect you guys and keep you alive, and this is how you reward me? This couldn't even feed me for a week!"
"I understand, Goddess!"
"You don't want me to go hungry, do you?"
"Of course not!"
Do you know what I could do?" she cooed, lowering you closer to her mouth. You try to cringe as her tongue licks your body from head to toe. "I could thin your herd a little by eating you. You know. Kill two birds. They'll have one less mouth to feed, and I'll get one more meal!"
"Please, goddess. Mercy!"
In response she simply begins to lower you into her mouth.
"I'm a productive farmer. If you get rid of me, no one will be able to grow my share of the land," you beg.
"K fine,' she concludes. "I won't eat you for now, but...
