Not Enough

“Is that it?” she glares. “That’s barely a snack!”

“Please. It’s all our village can spare right now,” you explain. “The harvest season is months away.”

“We agreed to ten percent of your crops in exchange for your protection. Why are you trying to shortchange me?”

“We’re not. This is ten percent of our crops this month. We just have times of plenty and times of little.”

She stares at your cart for a few seconds thinking. You can see the hunger and disappointment in her eyes.
