When did the hallway get so long? Dan never remembered his room as more than a few paces from the archway. Was this her doing? Or was it just his imagination? Fear could do that to the brain... What was she doing to him? He wished he could figure it out, before something else catastrophic began to happen!
At the end of the hall-- a bathroom! Refuge! In there, he could clear his head and wash his face. With a bolt, he reached the room and slammed the door on his cackling older sister. Eighteen was a scary age for a girl! If only he could comprehend just what her present had been. Maybe then he could make sense out the situation! But common sense failed him. Any logic did. Whatever happened to him was entirely unnatural. He was hallucinating without reason to. But, thoughts aside. Dan would clear his head with a splash of cold water to the face.
Isn't it funny, Dan? How when you least expect it, she shows up again??
He twisted, sprinkling his sister with chilly droplets. Unfazed (and equally terrifying when dripping wet), she spun him back to the mirror and gripped his head tightly. His jaw clicked into place, and Dan let out an audible gulp.
"There, there, brother. You shouldn't have run off like that. I might have gone easier on you..."
Kat giggled, a shrill shriek of a sound.
"You know what's funny, little bro? You're not so little. I'm a woman, eighteen years today, and still I'm looking up to you. It really should be the other way around, you know what I mean?"
Let's fix this, shall we?
Dan felt a rumble course throughout his body. Catastrophic occurrences foretold?
"Also, a little problem I also have with dear, sweet brother. I feel I can tell you this now that I have the upper hand."
Casually, Kat leaned to whisper in Dan's ear. Her devilish tone irked him.
I hate how you're always "the attractive one". I've never even had a boyfriend and you pick flavors of the month? Well, I've been dealt the better hand in this round. So let's turn the tables for fairer odds!
