The gem.

The object that Spyro spotted was a strange looking gem. It flashed in the sunlight, winking in Spyro's direction.

Curious, he flew down to the gem. He landed on the soft grass and walked to the gem. It was floating in mid-air by some unseen force.

The moment Spyro touched it....
