Chapter #5Dungeons and expansion. by: Unknown After pondering for a while, Spyro decided that it would be best to search the old, crumbling, abandoned castle. His instincts was telling him that he would find Cynder there.
With his destination set, he flew as quickly as he could to the island, but it took a while for him to reach it, for it was far away from their cave.
Spyro paused in the air, looking down at the ruined castle: if it was whole, he guessed, it would have been square in shape, a watchtower seated on each corner, and in the middle was a large building.
But now it was a wreck, with walls that were so broken down that they were utterly useless, and gaping wholes were everywhere in the structures, which looked as if it was caused by some battle.
Spyro descended from the sky, landing on the broken road. He ran up the hill, climbing over the stones and through the broken gate.
The interior of the castle looked no better than outside: there was practically no roof, weeds and other plant life grew everywhere, rooms were blocked off by ruble, and many staircases were destroyed, making access to some lower and higher rooms impossible, but luckily Spyro had wings.
He scouted the hallways, keeping his eyes wide open for Cynder, but after searching nearly an hour he could not find her. He was just about to give up hope and search somewhere else when he, while walking in a large chamber that looked like the throne-room, noticed a closed trap door.
Opening it, he saw a staircase leading to a cellar below. Torches blazed on all sides, lighting the way down, which told him that someone was indeed down there. Spyro went downstairs, happy that he was on his way to finding his friend.
"Hey, Cynder!" he called, his voice echoing off the wall, "Are you down here?"
The purple dragon found himself, when he reached the bottom of the stairs, in a long hallway. This was also lit, and to his right he saw the lengthy room end with a red door, and to his left he saw another staircase, which descended even further into the underground facility.
There was no reply. Worry returned to Spyro. What if Cynder was not here? What if he was trespassing on another beings ground? He wanted to leave, but his gut-feeling was urging him to continue.
Being now at a crossroad, Spyro had to choose yet again which way to go.
