Misty and the magic pond

One day, Misty was looking for for some fresh water for her and ash to drink for the night. Misty was roaming the forest for a spring. In several hours, she had found a crystal clear pond and dexided to drink some of the water seeing that it was safe after seeing a wild Pidgey take a sip from it. Misty took a water bottle and pour some of the spring water into it. As she left, the pidgey that drank from the spring was now a fully eolved Pidgot. Does the water took effect now or as she is walking back to camp?
