Chapter #7

Joseph is aware of the city's presence

    by: Something Author IconMail Icon
Much like your team, Joseph knew that the multiverse existed and there was an infinite number of alternate dimensions. The difference was the inhabitants of his universe figured that out long before yours did. Their technology was also far more advanced than the inventions on your planet. Even your creations weren’t as complex as theirs.

This wasn’t the first time that beings or artifacts from other dimensions ended up in this one. Sometimes, people would forcibly drag them into this world (luckily, very few people had the technology to do that, otherwise, some would use that power for darker reasons). Other times, they randomly appeared in this world due to people in other universes testing their own interdimensional technology.

And then there was that one time these ethereal horrors tore into this reality and caused a lot of chaos, but they were ultimately contained.

Anyway, Joseph’s parents worked for one of the most famous and progressive scientific companies in the world, and they gave him access to a lot of things that many others didn’t have. His friends at school couldn’t help but feel envious of him whenever they saw him with some hyper advanced device or applications on his phone. And one of those was an app that alerted him whenever something or someone from another reality was in the area he lived in. It could only detect things within a 10-mile radius, but that was good enough.

Today, Joseph sitting on a couch downstairs, when suddenly, his phone told him that an entire city had just materialized in his room. This was a surprise, since he’s never heard of anything like that happening before. Usually, only a few people at most arrived, not potentially thousands or millions. This, of course, greatly interested him, so he ran upstairs and entered his room, only to see…. nothing. Well, not literally nothing. All of the usual stuff was still there, but there were no signs of the small city anywhere.

“Huh? That’s weird. I don’t see anything,” Joseph said to himself as he looked at the symbol for the app, which looked like a fractured star with a portal at the center. There was a textbox that allowed him to ask the application questions, so he told it that he couldn’t see the city and asked where it was and what it looked like. He was hoping it was just invisible at the moment, and that he would be able to see it with some special tools or something. It would be disappointing if it turned out his phone made a mistake, and nothing actually came here.

In response to Joseph’s question, the screen displayed more information, which said that the city was only around an inch away from him, and that it was unbelievably tiny.

“Oh…. It’s way smaller than I thought it would be,” Joseph said. He was expecting it to take up a large portion of his room, not be smaller than specks of dust.

Meanwhile, as you were trying to find something you could use to protect everyone, your team looked up at the kid in horror, dreading what he was going to do next.
