Janet whispered something into his ear.
John jerked his head back. "No offence, but that wasn't the kind of arrangement I was looking for! We'd both get into trouble for that!"
Janet chuckled. "Had to try. You'd be surprised at how often some people fall for something like that."
"Let me guess: Sting Question?" John asked. "I am a police officer, so I do know about that sort of stuff."
Janet grinned. "Yeah. Truth be told, I'm what you might call a Special Health Investigator. I've been investigating some of the other Inspectors, and seeing if they are honest, or if they take bribes, of one sort or another."
"Well, I know that Larry never made me that sort of suggestion," said John. "He'd tell me to get it cleaned up within 48 hours, and he'd overlook it. Then again, my staff are told to look for this sort of thing, so that we can get this sort of thing taken care of quickly. I know that wasn't here last night when I checked it."
"Well, there is something else I am looking for," said Janet as she got out a sample collection jar. "Seems a lab created a new mold, and some spores managed to escape some how."
"Dangerous?" John asked.
"Only if you are allergic to mushrooms," said Janet. "It's edible, and was created as a cheap way to grow food in areas that have a hard time growing most anything else. It grows reasonably quick, and, once it gets a certain size, quits spreading, until it gets damaged, or harvested, and then it regrows to heal the damage." She then removed some of the mold, and placed it in the jar.
"So, any real issues with it?" John asked.
"Depends on how you define an issue," said Janet. "If you want it, it will take up about ten square feet of space, at about an inch thick, at most, which is nice, as you can sort of frame it into a three foot by three foot square that's about two inches in depth. If you don't want it, it's awful hard to get rid of, like most other molds."
"So, if this is the stuff you're looking for, would there be any issues having it?" John asked.
"I'd have to check the sample, but if it is, there shouldn't be any health concerns," said Janet. "Might need a special growing permit to have it grow here, but since it would save the price you'd normally pay to get mushrooms, it shouldn't be that big of an issue."
"And if it's just the regular stuff?" John asked.
"Oh, the usual," said Janet. "Get rid of it within 48 hours. That being said, I'll take this to the lab, and call you within the hour."
"Um, thanks," said John.
"Of course, if you wish to talk to me later, I know of a nice place we could go to," Janet said, as she wrote something down on a sheet of paper and handed it to him.
John looked at her.
The werewolf grinned. "For coffee, nothing serious."
John chuckled nervously. "Right. Coffee. Not dinner."
"And certainly not for-" she whispered into his ear.
John chuckled once again. "Right, certainly not for that!"
"Right," said Janet. "Never on the first date, and certainly not over a cup of coffee. After five dates and ten cups of coffee, maybe." She looked up at the mold. "Well, let's see what else there is."
About ten minutes later, Janet left.
"Well, that was interesting," John said, as he watched her go. He then went into the storage room, and looked at the mold. "So, what to do with you?"
