Chapter #10

bad taste

The taste was horrendous. A mix of bitterness and indescribable sharpness flooded his senses, and he recoiled instantly, shaking his head and spitting out what he had tasted. “Ugh! What is wrong with me?” The reality of the moment crashed back over him like a cold wave.

He was trapped in a persona that felt entirely wrong. Thoughts raced through his mind: Who would even notice he was missing? What happened if he didn’t change back? Remaining in that transforming space of a boutique, surrounded by clothing and frivolity, started to feel increasingly like a prison.

Summoning every ounce of resolve, Eddy rushed out of the fitting room. The store, polished and brightly lit, was populated by a handful of customers who fawned over clothes and accessories. His heart thumped loudly in his chest as he made eye contact with a girl who was nearby, seemingly trying on shoes. Her expression morphed from shock to amusement, and that stung more than he expected.

“Hey! You look cute!” she called over with a playful grin, clearly enjoying the moment.

Eddy’s cheeks flushed a deep shade of crimson, blame heating the back of his neck. “I’m not—” he stuttered, but the words couldn’t find form. He needed to get out.

He barreled toward the exit, racing past the racks of clothes, each fabric a reminder of the transformation he could hardly grasp. “Just get outside,” he thought to himself, the world shrinking in on him as he nearly collided with a sales associate.

“Excuse me!” the saleswoman exclaimed, bewildered by his rush out without paying!
Eddy didn’t stop to apologize or even thinking to pay for this ; he kept moving until the cool air of the outside world hit his skin, sending him tumbling back into reality—and temporarily grounding him.

Eddy leaned against the building wall, taking massive gulps of fresh air as he fought against the whirlpool of emotions swirling within. He glanced down at his attire, desperately pulling the hem of the blouse down. A slight movement caught his eye; he could see some passersby glancing at him, pointing, giggling. The embarrassment was almost overwhelming.

“What the hell just happened?” he muttered under his breath, searching for answers. His mind raced with questions, fears, and the surreal nature of what he had just endured.
The instinctive bubbling of curiosity still lingered, deep within him, igniting apprehension over this uncharted experience. He was scared and intrigued, wondering where this strange path would take him. With every passing second, he knew he needed to find out more—not just about the clothes he had tried on, but about himself in this new reality.
