This choice: He holds off on telling Laura and goes after Vanessa. • Go Back... Jason and Laura chatted for a while, though Jason was barely there. He was busy thinking of all the various scenarios possible should he attempt to ask Vanessa out on a date. He felt kind of bad ignoring Laura in a time of need but the fact was she spent most of every summer complaining about her older siblings. Jason resolved that he would figure out if the magical app was still on her phone and if it was he'd tell her so she could have the body of her dreams. In the meantime he had other plans.
"Are you even listening?" Laura was asking.
"Of course I am," Jason lied, "look, you take all this too seriously. Just because Vanessa and Greg are popular doesn't make them better."
"No, you're right. They're popular because they're better, not the other way around."
Jason sighed and rolled his eyes. There was no stopping her once she was on a roll. He listened and gave the occasional grunt of agreement for a while longer then asked, "Just out of curiosity, were you going to go to the bonfire tonight?"
"Are you kidding? No way! But since you ask did you want to come over-"
"Sorry Laura, my mom is calling me. I have to go. I'll see you tomorrow." Jason hung up feeling a bit guilty but reminded himself he'd help Laura soon enough.
He made a quick trip to the mall and picked up a few new articles of clothing that would fit his new frame as well as a few bigger sizes to grow into. Then he went home and paced for a few hours rehearsing every possible pickup line he could think of. Finally the sun was dipping and Jason made his way up the beach in his swim trunks and nothing else. The sea air was cool and he could have done with a shirt, but he wanted to make sure Vanessa got a good look at his torso.
Once he arrived at the party he almost immediately turned around. There was Greg with several of his bodybuilding buddies laughing and chatting while a handful of girls fawned over their muscles. Greg was looking especially incredible. While Jason had been growing Greg had packed on some additional weight as well beefing up to a powerful and intimidating 240 pounds. Jason had overheard him talking about his gains a few days earlier but hadn't gotten a look at Greg until just now. All of Jason's newfound confidence left him in that moment and it was all he could do to keep himself from turning right around. He bolstered his ego by reminding himself that come December 240 pounds would be like a stick compared to him and pressed on.
There were about 80 or so people all gathered in the vicinity of the bonfire pit and Jason moved among them in the waining light of the day. It only took a few minutes to spot Vanessa and once he did his heart started pounding in his chest. She looked amazing. She wore skintight black Lycra shorts and a dark red bikini top.
Jason found where the drinks were being served and before he could even decide on what he wanted a beer was poured from a keg and shoved into his hand. He kept close to Vanessa, sipping his drink and waiting for a chance to make his approach. To his amazement he only had to wait about 15 minutes when Vanessa excused herself from her current group and walked away alone. There was no one around her and Jason knew he probably wouldn't get another shot so he started walking quickly on an intercept course.
"Hey Vanessa!" Jason shot her the brightest smile he could muster not believing what he was doing.
Vanessa frowned at him for a moment which made Jason worry but then her face lit up. "Jason? Is that you? I didn't recognize you. You look, I mean wow. You look great! Have you been working out?"
"Thank you. Yeah, I have. I think I've gotten some ok results. You want to feel?" He held his arm out and tensed his forearm and bicep.
At first she hesitated and Jason didn't think she was going to, but then she grinned and reached a hand out and slid it along his upper arm. As she squeezed down her eyes went wide.
"Oh my god, you're so hard! What do you have in there, rocks? I don't think I've ever felt muscles this tight." She continued to squeeze his small but mighty bicep.
Jason then lowered his arm and flexed his chest in the hopes that it would entice her to further explore. To his delight it worked and soon both of her hands were exploring his chest and stomach. Even in the light of dusk Jason could see the skin on Vanessa's chest and neck flushed and her nipples began to poke through her top. A moment later they made eye contact with each other and Vanessa stepped back embarrassed.
"Sorry," she said. "I got a little carried away."
"Don't worry," Jason said. He was sad that her hands were no longer on him but also thrilled that he had the upper hand in their conversation, a position he never dreamed of being in.
"Whatever you're doing keep it up, because... wow!"
"You better believe I will." Jason guided them into a brief conversation that covered a few safe topics like the annual party and fireworks. Not wanting to keep her away from her friends for too long Jason eventually decided it was time to roll the dice.
"So, I was wondering if I can take you out to a movie or something. Maybe this weekend?" Before he knew it the words were out there. And he felt as though time had frozen.
Vanessa frowned and Jason felt his heart sink. "Oh.. I'm sorry, Jason. I can't this weekend. I'm headed up to the mountains with some friends." Jason was about to accept his rejection and move on when she continued. "But I'm free for the weekend after that. I hope that's ok with you."
Suddenly Jason was giddy with energy. "That'd be great. The classic theater in downtown is showing the director's cut of Blade Runner. Have you seen it? Total classic Sci-Fi." As soon as the words were out he realized his mistake. Vanessa was not Laura and had never been a fan of the nerdier things in life.
Vanessa's brow furrowed for a moment. Then her eyes roamed across Jason's chest and arms. She looked back up to his face and smiles. "You know, I don't usually like those movie but I don't think I ever really gave them a chance. There must be something cool about them if you and Laura like them so much. It's a date."
"Ok, great." Jason said then wished her a good night before walking back home. He remained calm all the way back up to his room where he immediately began dancing, leaping, and otherwise celebrating his incredible fortune.
