This choice: "But I'm doing okay. Good enough to eat and talk a bit tonight." • Go Back...Chapter #9Day in Question by: GeaMeX It has been about 25 minutes since you started cooking the meat, which were a few fairly large pieces of T-bone steaks. Once the steaks were fully cooked, you turned off the stove and placed them on a large plate. You also stuck a fork into the one that was on the top of the pile. You turn with the plate in your hands, but stopped before even taking a second step. It was because you noticed Morgan, resting his head in his arms on the table. "He was resting this whole time, huh."
The smell of the cooked meat was starting to snake through the air, and soon ending up into Morgan's nostrils. Morgan's eyelids immediately rose up along with his head, "Whoa! Something smells good."
"Yep." You hold out the plate of meat, "I made steak." You set the plate on the table in front of Morgan's beak. Morgan blinked once, staring blankly at the plate of food for a moment. "? Is something wrong?"
"Uh...", Morgan places a hand over his head, "I guess I should've told you...that I'm a vegetarian."
You stare at Morgan with wide eyes, one of them twitching at the thought of Morgan's comment. "A-...are you serious?! I mean, I don't wanna be rude but, I kinda find that hard to believe! You're such a big guy! And I'm not just being kind, you just are! I mean, you've gotta be...", You looked at the expression on Morgan's face, which was of him with his hand still on his head, only he was chuckling a bit while trying to hold back a smile on his beak, "...kidding." Morgan sits up on his chair as he begins to laugh loudly. You stare at Morgan for a short time, then begin to pout. "... Hrm..."
Morgan let out a few more laughs, and then wiped a tear from his eye as he regained his composure. "Hey, you're not the only one who likes to mess with people."
You stare at Morgan, "..." You then turn and look away as you fold your arms, "Hmph. I'd take your food away, but I'm not that stubborn."
"Hey."
You glance at Morgan, "Hm?"
Morgan twirls the fork once in his hands. "Thanks for the grub."
"..." You stare at Morgan for a moment, as sounds of him chewing and gulping down the food was being heard. You think to yourself a bit, and then decide to sit at the table next to him. You were about to say something, but couldn't help but keep staring at Morgan and his table manners. He wasn't too messy, but he seemed too fixated on eating than talking. "Uh..."
Morgan stops, as if pausing for a moment. "Hm? You were gonna say something?"
"... Uh, actually, yes." You lower your head, and then glance up at him. "If you don't mind talking about this."
Morgan grins, raising the fork with some meat on it, "Sure. Shoot."
You're looking down at the table for a while. "Well...", the fork was nearing Morgan's mouth, "...I just wanted to know about what happened to you back there." Morgan's hand stopped right where it was. "..." Morgan closes his beak, and then lowers the fork on to the plate. "Uh, if you're not interested still, I'm not gonna force you to..." Morgan suddenly let out a loud belch. "Uh..."
Morgan pats his stomach, "Sorry. Kinda ate a bit too fast. But...", Morgan stares at you a bit provocatively for a moment. You back up a bit on your seat, "......do I have your word, that you won't speak a word of this to anyone?"
"Yes, of course! ..." You pull out a saw and hold it against your left arm. "I'll cut off an arm to prove it."
"No! No! God, please don't!" You set the saw down. Morgan sighs. "Okay, here's what happened. It started out one normal day. It was morning time, I didn't have work, and I had the day to myself. I also wasn't planning anything important, 'cept to go to the park and relax."
"Wow..."
Morgan looks at you, raising an eyebrow. "This is surprising to you?"
"Well, yeah. I mean, your lifestyle is so...normal. In fact it's a lot like mine. But please, go on."
Morgan stared blankly at the table for a moment, and then began scratching the back of his head, "... The next part is kind of hard to explain... I was walking down the street, as I said, then somebody taps me on the shoulder. Once I turned around, I suddenly get sprayed with knockout gas. I'm pretty sure it was knockout gas because I passed out right after."
"..." You stare at Morgan as he paused for a moment, tapping the fork against the edge of the plate. "...So, then what?"
"... I'm not, entirely sure how long I was out, but when I came to, I awoke in a cage. It was small, so I wasn't able to stand up on my knees. My wrists were tied and I had awoken in some sort of lab. I also realized I wasn't the only one there. It was me, a dalmatian, a dragon, a ferret, and a shark."
"No way......a shark?!"
"Yeah. They're around.", Morgan said.
You just answer with a slight grin on your face, "Kewl."
"So anyways, I was the last of them all to have woken up. We were caged up for over half an hour. During that time, we all got to know each other fondly, and mentioned how we ended up where are now. We realized we were each doing our regular activity when we each got gassed in the same way." Morgan begin to clench the fork in his fist even harder. "Then HE showed up."
"..." You stare at Morgan with a worried look on your face. Morgan begins to shiver a bit.
"Nng...that cold bastard...! I didn't know who they were, but they were both wearing labcoats. The dragon lost his cool once the guy came in with his assistant. He sounded furious, yelling loudly and making our eardrums pop. All of a sudden, he gets injected in the chest by a syringe filled with some sort of blue liquid. ... I don't know what's in it, but it seemed to have sedated our dragon pal. And then within a few seconds, he passes out." Morgan clenches the fork in his hand even harder, almost enough to bend it in half. Morgan was also starting to clench his teeth as he continued to speak, "Gih... The dragon was the biggest of all of us. Almost twice my size and I was the second biggest of everyone else. We didn't know what to think. If something like that was enough to completely sedate a dragon as big as him, what in the hell would happen to us!? Grr... Before we even had time to think, the dalmatian was the next to get injected! He falls flat on the ground within seconds! The ferret was terrified... I know because he backed away as far as he could, shaking hysterically. The man closed in on our ferret friend, injecting him with the same weird stuff in the leg. And with that...he passes out in a minute. So now it was just me and the shark. The scientist walked up to the shark, but the shark said he would bite the scientist's arm off before the syringe would even reach him. The scientist didn't care though. He wasn't even phased by what the shark said, as if it were an empty threat. He just...laughs... And then says, 'You sound like a worthy...test subject.' Both me and the shark's eyes widened. Why the hell were we being used as test subjects!? And what the hell was it for?! What the scientist said must've really stunned the shark. Because before he knew it, he was already injected with the said substance. I screamed out to the shark, but then, I look down...to see the scientist's assistant injecting me with the liquid. With that, the shark falls flat on the floor, and then passes out. As for me, I tried my hardest to say focused, but I was too sedated to even try hard enough...and fell towards the ground. The last thing I saw was the scientist...and his evil grin." Morgan was still shivering from his encounter as he paused for a moment. "I'm scared...but I'm mainly more pissed off! What...what the hell did he put inside me!?! !!"
Morgan's tone suddenly calmed right down. It was because you were holding Morgan's hand, to show that he was safe now. "......And then what happened?"
"..." Morgan closes his eyes, "Mm... Me and the others were suddenly awaken. This group of five anthros walked up to us, breaking open the cages and untying us. The group managed to get the four to safety, but I almost got caught. I yelled for the others to run away without me. As for me...I thought of a last resort. I saw the window to my left. And without thinking, I just went for it, running towards the window and jumping right through it." Morgan paused for a short moment. "As for the rest of the story, I'm pretty sure you've got it in memory. I don't know who that group were, but I hope to see them again someday, and thank them."
"Wow... That's some harsh stuff."
You and Morgan just sat in your seats for a while, staring intently towards the table. Morgan speaks up... indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
