You wake up in the world of My Little Pony, but with very different ponies.

This choice: Baltimare.  •  Go Back...
Chapter #5

Attack of the 50 Foot Octavia

    by: Unknown
A shadow emerges from the fog around the docks of Horseshoe Bay; a titanic ship, its bow splitting the sea in two. The passengers of the ship crowd onto the deck, cheering as the great metropolis comes into view. The trip to Baltimare had been long and hard, the passengers having spent weeks confined in tiny cabins, but it was worth it. Baltimare was known as a city of opportunity; where even the least fortunate of ponies can come and eke out a new life for themselves. As the ship landed, many of the town’s citizens came down to the docks to welcome the new arrivals; ponies who may one day be their friends or coworkers. For the poor immigrants from the far south, it was just the kind of paradise they imagined. They came in couples or families, having furniture hauled in by workers and carrying suitcases stuffed with money and clothing. And somewhere, lost among the crowd, was a quiet young mare carrying nothing but a cello.

The mare slipped away from the crowd, not wanting to get caught up in the arrival celebration. She clutches her huge cello case as she winds through the crowd, trying not to make eye contact with the locals. She almost feels unworthy to be among them; embarrassed to be seen in public during the lowest point of her life. She had to get away from her hometown, somehow, before it all ended up killing her. She spent most of her bits buying a boat ticket that would take her as far away as possible. Everything and everyone she ever knew or loved, she had to leave behind. Her cello case was now her only real possession in the world.

But Baltimare was a city of opportunity. Thousands of down-on-their-luck ponies like her came here every year, or so the brochure claims. As she steps onto the bustling city streets, she thinks, surely this is her second chance? Surely, this is her chance to finally live the life she’s always dreamed of?

She sighed. Here’s hoping she doesn’t screw everything up this time.

A few days later…

You sat staring at your heels, as water runs down your bare body. You shiver frightfully, clutching yourself futilely in the cold. You sat beneath a shred of cardboard in an alleyway, trying to shield yourself from the rain. Days ago, you had woken up in a strange land called Equestria, a fantasy world with a number of odd quirks. The people looked slightly different than normal, complete with tails, snouts and fur, and called themselves ‘ponies’. Despite these odd features, they all seem to be preternaturally attractive, the average ‘mare’ being a supermodel by human standards, which is further exacerbated by their penchant for walking around half-naked. But all of that isn’t even the worst part; when you came to this world, you were shrunken to 4 inches in height! You considered yourself a laid-back kind of guy, but for your first couple of days in Equestria, you had been freaking out non-stop. You had always had a bit of phobia for things that were much larger than yourself, and these ‘ponies’ were over fifteen times your size!

The first pony you showed yourself to was a young mare that walked by the alleyway you lived in often. You had overheard her conversations, and found that she sounded nice. Maybe you had been worrying over nothing, you thought to yourself. Maybe these ponies really are nothing to be afraid of. So yesterday, you finally worked up the courage to step out and try to get her attention. But when she laid eyes upon you, she immediately let out a piercing squeal. “Eek! A bug!” she yelled, immediately pulling her foot up in the air. Before you could even register what was happening, you looked up to see her giant foot descending upon you!

“No, no, wait!” You cried, as you jumped out of the way, only narrowly escaping being crushed under the mare’s foot. You quickly ran back to your alleyway and hid, almost hyperventilating. That had been the scariest moment in your entire life! From then on, you had been particularly skittish… but things weren’t working out very well. Your reduced size resulted in a reduced need for food, but you were still severely malnourished. Your clothes hadn’t shrunk with you, so you had been completely naked in the cold of autumn. You didn’t know how much longer you could go on like this.

Meanwhile, the grey young mare who played the cello walked down the sidewalk in the rain, running an errand for her lord. She had immediately landed a job as a maidservant for a wealthy hierophant, who paid her just enough for her to survive on. The job was a bit soul-rending, especially because her real dream was to make money playing her cello, but she assured herself that it was only temporary. Besides, it felt good to finally feel self-reliant. As she walked, she caught a glimpse of something unusual out of the corner of her eye. She turned, to see a tiny creature squatting in an alleyway. At first, she thought it was some kind of insect, but quickly realized it was unlike any insect she had ever seen. “Hm?” she vocalized, tilting her head curiously. This gets the critter’s attention, and it quickly skitters away and hides. But the mare was too curious to simply let it go.

She followed the critter curiously down the alleyway, trying to show that she was friendly and meant no harm. Eventually, they reached a dead end, and the mare knelt down and finally got a good look at the strange creature. It was the strangest animal she had ever seen! It looked like some kind of furless pony, about the size of a crayon. She marveled at the strange creature, until she realized that it was obvious afraid. “Hey there, little guy,” she greeted in a calm tone, trying to show that she wasn’t a threat.

While this may have been fun from the mare’s perspective, from your point of view, this chase had been terrifying! You had darted down the alleyway as fast as you could when the mare spotted you, but you couldn’t possibly outrun the massive giantess. Eventually, you had run into a dead end, and simply cowered in fear, expecting her to crush you into the ground. To your surprise, instead, the mare only calmly greeted you, in an almost motherly tone of voice. You looked up at her, apprehensively. This was the first time you’ve ever seen a pony up close. She had a coat of grey fur that was as smooth as silk, a silver mane, and wore nothing but a pair of white panties. But the first thing your eyes were brought to were her bare breasts, which hovered inches away from your face. Even from an average perspective, they were large and pillowy; by from your shrunken perspective, they were humongous! They were almost bigger than you were! But you averted your gaze, trying not to anger her. “H-h-hello,” You stutter in response, afraid that any wrong word may be your last.

“Oh! So you can talk? I’ve never seen a critter like you before,” she smiled. “What kind of animal are you?”

“I-I’m a human, I guess?” You say, nervously.

“Why, I’ve never heard of 'humans',” she says, intrigued. She had met other bipedal, talking animals, like cows and horses, but she had never met one that was so tiny. “Are humans native to Baltimare?”

You didn’t want to lie to her, but you figured if you told her the truth about where you came from, she might freak out. “Uh… yeah, I was born in Baltimare. In a human village.”

“Well, that explains it then! Sorry, I’m new to this city,” she said, standing tall and folding her arms, looking genuinely exciting to be meeting a new creature. “I’m Octavia. What’s your name, little guy?”

“Uh… Thomas.”

“Enchanté,” she greets, but her curiosity continues. “Well, what happened to your village?”

“Someone came and stepped on them all,” you make up a fake story on the spot, trying to make her feel sympathy for you. “I was the only one that got away.”

Her smile immediately faded, and she reeled back and gasped at your story, startling you. You had expected to garner some sympathy, but you didn’t expect her reaction to be that extreme! “Oh! That’s horrible!” she says, looking heartbroken. “Who could do such a thing? And now you’re just here, alone, in the rain?” You nod, giving her the saddest look you could manage. You expected that ponies would just try to squish you, but so far, this mare seemed genuinely kind. She thought for a moment, before her warm smile returns. “Tell you what! You can live with me for a little while, until we find you a new human village,” she offers. “Beats sleeping in the rain, right?” You were immediately taken aback. You hadn’t anticipated this. You were about to decline, but your grumbling stomach reminded you of your predicament. You didn’t think you could survive much longer on your own at this size. You still didn’t fully trust this mare, but she may be your best bet.
