Meitnerium’s head and antennae ached; this was simply not her day. Running a short diagnostic on herself she found her body required sustenance. Surely this strange planet at least had food pills, carbon based life did have to eat and all, right?
“I thank you both for your brave rescue but more to the point do the life forms here possess food pills?” she asked adjusting herself and trying to gain her bearings to the Earthling’s couch. Judging from both of their faces they didn’t seem to catch her drift. So uneducated these people were, oh well they had helped her out she tried again.
“Nutrients for nourishment?” she states again sounding like an earthling mother as she explained something to her child.
This seemed to make a connection with the older one, as his face lit up as he said “Nurishment! Heck we got plenty of that! Heck you must be starved, did you miss dinner?” He was talking a mile a minute now trying to help her out anyway he could. “Hey Tom-tom, drum us up some of that chili we mad and maybe some cornbread. Don’t worry girl we’ll put some meat on your bones”.
The middle age man ushered her into the kitchen where she found herself sitting in a chair, which strangely touched the ground unlike the hover seats of her home world.
Soon a smell unlike any other she’d ever known filled the room. Dark and spicy like a taco flavored food pill, but 1000x more palatable. A bowl of strange chunky red brew was set before her and the father and son pair watched intently seeing what she would do next.
What in frickin’ faith was this stuff? Meitnerium wondered. Could this possibly be the “mud” substance she’d read about?
“Dad she’s not-“ Tom started seeing their new guest looked quite confused.
“Hush Tom-mato” his dad cut him off, “Don’t you think she knows what food is?” He waited a few seconds more before he scuttled forward slowly to not scare her and taking the silver spoon next to the bowl he plunged it deep into the bowl and held it to her pursed lips. “Here this is food, now say, Ahhh” he said demonstrating the action of opening one’s mouth.
Wait, they expected her to put this stuff in her mouth? Disgusting! Nothing but food pills and the occasional boyfriend’s tongues passed through these lips…Well, actually… the stuff did smell pretty good...Maybe just one bite of the strange stuff just to say she did to her friends back at home. She opened her mouth into a small O shape so the father figure could gently place the stuff into her mouth, he then stepped back to watch the results.
Instantly Meitnerium was taken to a world unlike any other she’d ever know. This unusual thing called food was AMAZING! She could taste and analyze the flavorings to the smallest detail, this intriguing creation had not used artificial computer-designed molecules, but an actual raw ingredients! These flavors were absolute; no assemblage of molecules may duplicate the complexity of actually eating living organism. The pills and there artificial computer-designed food flavorings were much in demand to the point of shunning "natural" food grown in "dirt" This was something new and radical to her. Not taking a second to stop and chat with her saviors, they could only sit and watch as she voraciously cleaned her bowl spoonful after spoonful.
Now bowl empty, and with a smudge of red chili on the slight of green skin around her lips, she breathed a sigh of content before asking. Never before had she actually felt full, physically full, as in her stomach had absolutely no more room inside of it, only knowing the "feeling of full" that food pills brought her.
She had definitely warmed up to this place, and found herself asking…
