This choice: Wait for the mermaid to sleep to get a drink. • Go Back...
Chapter #8
The Waiting Game
by: Unknown
Using a nearby hollow tree base as cover, you establish a sort of camp site as you wait out the mermaid. She probably lives close by, so the best option for getting fresh water will be to wait until night, when she falls asleep. Of course, that foxgirl will likely be searching for prey at that time, since foxes are nocturnal and hunt at night. The best you can do is hope that she is somewhere else while you make your daring attempt.
The sky slowly fades from blue to orange, and the beams of light that previously shown through the leaves now become dimmer and dimmer. You peak you head out of your hole and see the mermaid still lounging at the edge of the lake. A look of fatigue forms on her face; the duration of her wait is clearly taking its toll on her. The sun continues to move downward, now removing the golden hue that was previously covering the land. Your eyes strain to make out the still-resting form of the mermaid, who appears tired, yet determined, in her pursuit of you. Man, what did I do to deserve this? you wonder, realising that the maiden will not move on. Perhaps now is the time to make a move for the water before her eyes and sense adjust.
