Jane's mom comes to serve her some lunch.

Jane furiously rubbed her nose, the itchiness she had felt in her dream carrying over into reality. Luckily she didn't have to sneeze yet, but the itch was driving her crazy. She didn't stop rubbing for at least a minute, at which point she heard knocking on her bedroom door.

"Jane? Honey, are you alright? You're usually wide awake by now."

Penelope, her mother's voice, warm and comforting, but also loud enough to make Jane's head throb. She placed a hand on her forehead and groaned. Rolling over slightly, Jane faced toward her door.

"Mom, I'm sick," she complained, sounding extremely stuffy. As soon as the words left Jane's mouth, her mother opened the door and stepped inside. She was holding a tray with a bowl of soup and some carrots, which could only mean one thing.

"I thought you might be," Jane's mother said, setting the tray down on the bedside table. Penelope looked exactly like Jane, only 25 years older and with glasses. She even wore her hair in a ponytail, just like Jane usually did. Rubbing Jane's shoulder gently, she let out a sigh.

"What's the matter, honey?"

Jane didn't say a word, but she sniffed powerfully, wrinkling her nose. Penelope smiled and gave Jane another rub.

"Got the sniffles?"

Jane nodded. Penelope smiled again, and then she removed her glasses and stared out the window. Shaking her head, Penelope put her glasses back on and looked down at Jane.

"It's a shame you're sick on a beautiful day like today. Is there anything I can do?"
