Before long, Superman was back in the secret room, but he noticed right away something was different. That thing, unfortunately, was that the coffin, and the Kryptonite inside it, were both gone. Irritated to find the best clue for fixing his friend was gone without a trace, Superman slammed a fist into a nearby wall. That seemed to trigger something, as right after he did it, a nearby wall opened up and revealed a monitor.
Displayed on the monitor was, of course, Lex Luthor, though the background was so dark that even Superman’s Supervision couldn’t make out any details that would help him find where he was hiding out. The villain looked smug, but conflicted. “I’ll say, Superman, you surprised me. I hadn’t guessed you’d so quickly enlist the help of the Batman. That little Kryptonite trap was meant for you, but it seems I get to see it tested on humans before Kryptonians. I still have Lois, of course, and if you bring that friend of yours back here, sedated, I’ll trade Lois for the test subject.”
As much as Superman wanted to respond, he could tell this was a recording, though recently made, and not a live transmission. He left the room without a word. There was no way he’d trade the life of his good friend for anyone’s even his wife’s. They’d work together to find Luthor, and stop him. After another sweep of the city, with no sign of Lois or Luthor, Superman went back to Wayne Manor.
