With a coarse chuckle, Nathan takes one step towards the pedestal and then another. He can hardly believe what he sees in front of him. Seven months of hard work! He can hardly believe it!
But now is not the time for celebrating; if years of treasure hunting had taught him anything, it was that he needed to get the hell out of dodge first. Too many times he'd found himself with the treasure in hand only to have it tugged from his grasp by a meglomaniac or a rival treasure hunter with a dubious sense of personal morality (and occasionally, hygiene). He reaches out and grasps for the necklace and clasps it around his neck; he takes only a second to admire it before tucking it under his shirt.
"Okay, time to get out of here."
It's only as he steps out of the corridor that led into this room in the first place that Nathan feels his stomach gurgle with hunger. How long had it been since he'd last eaten? Whenever he was treasure hunting, he often forgot to have a bite to eat.
But that was no matter now. Once he was back home, he'd have time to celebrate hard for a job well done.
