"There's a babysitting service advertising for part-time staff on the noticeboard downstairs." you say. "I applied just before you got here."
"I don't want to take the job from you." she says.
"I think they have more than one position." you tell her, giving her the contact details. "You should apply too."
"Thanks." she says and calls right away. Harriet arranges for her to come in on Monday afternoon too.
Monday comes and your classes go by slowly. It's only the first week so the lecturers are just telling you what the unit will be about, information you already knew when you enrolled.
Finally it is time for you and Sophia to head to Happy Baby Babysitting to meet Harriet.
"Hi I'm Sophia and this is Emma." Sophia introduces you both at the front desk. "We're here to see Harriet Davidson"
"Just through there." the secretary points to a set of double doors. "They will be starting in a few minutes."
You follow Sophia through the doors into a large hall. Ten other girls are already waiting there, looking just as confused as you.
As promised, a few minutes later a woman enters, followed by 4 girls, about your age, maybe some a little older.
"Good afternoon girls. Thankyou all for coming" the woman introduces herself and the others. "I'm Harriet Davidson. These young women are Jane, Kelly, Samantha and Rita. They will be starting the final stage of their training today. That involves working with you."
"It must be some sort of mentor thing." Sophia whispers to you. "They really take this seriously for a babysitting service."
"Quiet please." Harriet says. "Now in the first stage of your training you will take on the role of toddlers."
"What?" one of the girls asks. "We're here to take care of babies, not act like them."
"Let me explain Danielle." Harriet tells the girl. "In this stage you will learn to empathise with the children you will be caring for. You will also be assisting with the training of these young women. Their final stage of training is to practice their skills by taking care of you."
"What does that mean specifically?" Sophia asks nervously.
"You will be in diapers for the duration of stage 1. That is full-time." Harriet explains. "When you aren't here you may change yourselves but during these training sessions your assigned babysitter will be responsible for your changes."
"Changes?" another girl asks. "Like diaper changes. You expect us to use diapers."
"Yes Jessica." Harriet says. "You must appreciate what it is like to be in diapers like the children you will be caring for. You will be given a harmless drug which will make you temporarily lose control of your bladder and bowels."
"This is crazy." a voice declares. "I'm not going to shit myself in public just to get this job."
"The drug generally causes you to soil your diaper within an hour or two of taking it so you should only mess while you are here." Harriet explains. "I should also point out that those of you who participate in the training program will receive full pay and for those of you in College, this course gives you credit toward you graduation. However, anyone who doesn't want to participate is welcome to leave."
Most of the girls aren't convinced and begin to leave. Harriet doesn't look surprised. You guess that she invited so many because most leave when the training is explained.
