Half dragon half human but stonger than both.

Chapter #6

"...a ledgendary dragon slayer."

You watched her as she continued. She didn’t know yet but being named after a dragon slayer was ironically accurate. After all you had kill and eaten more dragons that any human was ever done so the term fit rather nicely, even if you were a dragon yourself, well half dragon at least.

“The dragon slayer’s name was Max. He was known because he was able to take down any dragon he came in contact with. He died do to old age, which is unheard of for people in his profession. Do you like it?” she asked as she was unsure of giving a dragon slayer’s name to a dragon but it was the best she could come up with, as her education was far below despite her apparent intelligence.

“It’s perfect.” You said and brought your head down. You hesitated and she flinched but you both, at the same time reached out for the other. She with her hand and you in an attempt to nuzzle. It ended in her petting the front and side of your snout, first with a extreme amount of nervousness but as she saw you liked it she grew more bold and continued until you both drew back. “Sarah? Why were you chosen as a sacrifice?” you asked and you immediately saw that her face expression changed to a sad one. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have asked. You don’t have to answer.” You said.

“No, it’s ok. I suppose you should be entitled to your curiosity just as I am. I am sure we both have loads of questions for the other.” she said as she forced a smile then sat on the chair. You hesitantly scooted over and placed your head to her side within arm’s reach of her. She was anxious at first but relaxed when you stopped moving, with the exception of your eye. “That dragon was very specific with his sacrifices. He wanted fit young women and if my village gave him anything else he would disembowel them and leave them there, demanding double payment for the next month. My family… let’s just say they never really cared for me. My father was a drunk, my mother an overpaid and arrogant prostitute, and my brother a sexually abusive military brat. Being that I was the youngest they would each use me in whatever way they wished. Wither that be for beating, selling me to clients, or as a… sexual outlet. This sacrifice was no different. When they found that there was no one other than my mother to sacrifice they eagerly gave me to the task. Now that I think on it you saved me from more than just that dragon.” She said and reached out to pet you on the ridge above your eye. You purred lightly at this which made her freeze at first but she quickly realized the difference between your growl and a purr so she continued.

“Looks like we have more in common than I thought.” You said but you quickly lowered the profile of your speech as you saw her freeze in momentary terror at your teeth when they were visible. She looked at you quizzically at first and especially when you pulled away and leaned so your underside was facing her. You then extended a wing s she could see the ever present scars of where your mother sank her teeth into your hide and wings. She gasped at them as she first thought they were just how you looked. But when she followed the pattern and saw they were jaw and teeth marks she just stared at them for a moment in disbelief. She had never seen such a bad injury that didn’t result in death.

“Who…? What happened?” she asked in a combination of wonder and disbelief. You retracted your wing and sat back to where you were before, but with your head snaked around in front of her so you could more easily talk with her.

“My mother. My kind has strict rules on what is allowed to live as far as newborns are concerned. Any that have even the slightest abnormality are killed and discarded like trash or worse. When I was born she… well she didn’t have a problem with showing me she didn’t want me around.” You said and met her gaze as she looked into your glowing red eyes.

“If you don’t mind me asking, what abnormality did you have for her to do that to you? You look more than capable to me.” She said and you forced a smile, being careful not to show any teeth so not to frighten her.

“Thanks Sarah, however that was the abnormality. I am what is known as a King in my species. The males of my kind are usually vastly weaker and insignificant than females, mainly kept around as breeding slaves and such. But once in many generations a King is born with the genetic knowledge of all the Kings before it. A King is the biggest threat to a Queen’s rule so they are taught to be hated and killed on site.” You explained and she was trying to come up with ways to make you feel better.

“Well they obviously failed, you’re too good for them.” She said in a tone that indicated she was trying to put you on a pedestal.

“Not for lack of trying. If my genetic knowledge didn’t cover an advanced healing ability I would be dead. My mother was the Queen and not by any means incompetent. She truly thought I was dead or she would have sent the whole clan after me if need be. However, word of my existence has gotten out and they do send queen ranked dragons to take me out from time to time. Just means more food for me.” You said, the last part more casual as you tried to bring the mood of the conversation up some.

“Wait, you eat other dragons?” she asked and a hardened expression came over you that had her flinching.

“I hate other dragons. All they do is push their weight around and put humans down whenever they feel like it. I hate all of them, every last one.” You growled at the thought of other dragons but then snapped out of it when your eyes saw Sarah’s fearful reaction to your sudden anger. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you. You don’t need to fear me. I don’t harm humans, well most of the time I don’t.” you clarified but the last part you hung on for a little.

“What do you mean by ‘most of the time’?” she asked and you supposed it was a fair question.

“I mean I don’t go looking for fights or humans to eat. I even flee a fight if I can. But sometimes they catch me in positions or follow me back here. I do everything I can to get them to go away and stop trying to kill me but…” You said and looked over at the pile of armor and weapons. Sarah followed your gaze then looked back at you. “I don’t enjoy it at all but it does happen from time to time. Mostly those knights that are on those ‘Holy Missions’ they do to slay dragons. I just wish I could talk with them, with anyone but most humans either run or attack, never anything in between.” You said and slumped down as your head lay on the ground.

“Well you have me…” she said as she came over and rubbed your snout, trying to make you feel better.

“You mean you’re going to stay? Even if I kill and eat humans?” you asked, perhaps a little less gracefully and you could have phrased it better but she got what you were asking just fine. She was still wary of your teeth as you spoke but didn’t move like before.

“As long as you don’t act like those other dragons and go looking for humans to eat than yes, I’ll stay with you.” she said and from the little she knew of you she knew that strategically placing the dragon trigger in the sentence would help drive the point further in. “Besides, both of our families pretty much suck so we can start a new one with the two of us.” she said and smiled but noticed you still had something on your mind and hoped it wasn’t something to do with what she just said.

“Sarah… before you say that there is one more thing you should know about me. It is the primary reason why Kings are killed by both humans and dragons. One of the default abilities or information is that I am not completely dragon or human I am half and half but stronger than both. I retain all human traits as a dragon and the same in reverse as a human. It is probably why I like humans so much but the feeling is not usually returned.” You explained and you hoped that she would take it well.
