Chapter #7

Marcus' Overgrown Attitude

    by: Syrls Author IconMail Icon
Tyler and David cautiously stepped out onto the front lawn, their necks craning upward to stare at the grinning face of that towering kangaroo. Both drakes felt a sense of dizziness overcome them as they gaze upward into those big, eager eyes, and David especially was disturbed at how playful Marcus appeared to be. He figured that Marcus was easily 100 feet in height, though he couldn’t be sure. He hoped that he was wrong, and even more he hoped that it was some kind of disturbing dream he was having.

“How’s the view from down there, pipsqueaks?” Marcus boomed at both of them, a deep chuckle following that playful question. He shifted his weight and crouched down to get a better look at the tiny drake between his feet, a movement that caused both of them to stumble as the ground trembled beneath them.

Marcus’ eyes lit up at this, and with a grunt he lifted his footpaw and slammed it to the ground, compacting the earth beneath by nearly a foot and sending both Tyler and David flat on their asses.

“Haha, looks like I don’t even know my own strength!” Marcus boomed giddily, clearly amused that he could knock over his former “superior” in strength with a mere footfall.

David got to his feet first and shouted up at Marcus, “Go easy, you’re gonna crack the foundation on my house if you keep that up!”

“Aww, I didn’t mean to almost break your little DOLL-house, David.” He snickered. The roo’s tail thumped heavily against the ground behind him, the tip sweeping sideways and smashing through a house. This caused Marcus to flinch in surprise, before bursting out into thunderous, joyful laughter.

“And I definitely didn’t mean to break that one! That was kinda fun though…”

David and Tyler both watched in growing terror as Marcus looked over his shoulder to watch his own tail smash through the house in the other direction. They could already hear screams from inside both houses, the sound sending shivers up their spines.

“Marcus you have to stop messing around, someone’s gonna get hurt!” Tyler shouted, his voice quivering as he tried to remind the kangaroo that he was destroying people’s homes. He immediately whimpered when the kangaroo turned back to give him a toothy grin, “What’s wrong with a little fun, Tyler?”

David stood closer to his little brother and put an arm around him, trying to stand firm as he shouted up to Marcus, “I don’t think you’re really understanding the problem here, Marcus! I-I mean…this new size is amazing, but you’re ruining people’s lives in the process of having your fun!”

Marcus chuckled softly and shook his head, “I don’t think you quite understand what’s happened to me, David. But I’m willing to show you. Now why don’t you be a good little friend and grab that device you used to grow me, just in case I wanna get bigger.” He smirked.

David hesitated for a moment, before that massive kangaroo slammed his palm down on the ground in front of them, “Don’t make me wait, David! I don’t WANT to destroy your house…” He sneered, “…but I certainly would find pleasure in it.”

David growled softly under his breath before turning back to his house and running inside, plucking the sizeray up from the floor and bringing it outside. He lifted his palm from the ground and held it out expectantly, “Now, give it to me so I can be sure that I am the one in control of my size…I don’t quite trust you with my new stature, you see…”

The cobalt drake’s heart pounded as he stared at that huge, furry palm. Out of the corner of his eye he could see Tyler’s eyes widening as fear took over. David stepped forward and – with great reluctance – dropped the sizeray onto Marcus’ palm. He was rewarded with a smirk and a snort of amusement, “Good. Keep listening like that and maybe I’ll let you hold onto it for me…maybe.”

David gulped nervously and nodded, unable to say anything for a moment. He was terrified and infuriated at the same time. How DARE Marcus do this to him and his brother…or anyone else! He’d become a giant and in a matter of seconds he’d let it go completely to his head. It was a side of his friend that he’d never even imagined could exist.

The cobalt drake finally managed to speak up, “So Marcus,” he began, unable to hide the impatience in his tone, “what exactly are you going to do now?”

Marcus grinned toothily and without warning snatched both dragons up in his fingers, causing Tyler to scream in terror. David wasn’t much better off, though he managed to contain his fear at being suddenly caught in the impossibly strong grip of Marcus’ fingers. Both drakes struggled to breathe for those few moments when Marcus seemed to forget how fragile they were. After standing to his full height and lifting them up to his chest level Marcus arranged both drakes so they were in his palm, instead of being crushed in his grip.

“Well you two are gonna come watch as I…”
